Approx. 3 weeks ago at about 12:30 PM I got an emergency call from a guy who owns assisted living centers. A state inspector had just left one of his facilities that had slippery moss and slime covering the wood decks. He was told that he had until 8:30 the next morning to get the decks clean or they were going to pull his license.
At the time I happened to be about 10 minutes away so I drove on over. The decks amounted to about 3,000 +/- SF and they were so slippery I have no idea what he was even thinking in allowing them to get that way. Walking them was like ice, and while we see this quite often around here, never have seen this condition at an elderly care facility (broken hip city).
By now it was about 1:00 and it gets dark here this time of year by 4:30. Plus it was on the front end of the cold front we're currently mired in and the temp was about 34 F and falling rapidly.
I told him the only way we could get it done by dark was with hot water and a surface cleaner, and that the surface cleaner might mar the deck surface (it was pressure treated fir). He didn't care, just wanted to get it done and didn't care about the price. Well, I cared about the price and told him about what it was going to be (heavy hourly plus mobilization and demobilization) and that I wanted payment in green cash.
So while he went to the bank I had the guys bring a rig in. We hit it with SH/Roof Snot put on hot from an X-Jet. Dwell, then the SC with hot water. Got it done by dark. Came out great! No swirl marks, not one! Machine was 4,000 PSI, but run was about 300 feet in 3/8" hose. Used 24 D nozzles.
He just phoned me and has three more similar centers that he wants cleaned after global warming returns.
