I was thinking to add the Hudson valve to the long list with good stuff from Bob's site, but finally I decided to take it out for now. I want to put this truck and equipment in work ASAP, see how it goes and then I will start adding little things when needed.
I was trying to find some more info how the Hudson valve works. My concern is how much of the tank capacity, I will lose by putting a 1" Hudson valve?
I have read some good reviews on it, but also some aquarium guys complained of that valve getting stuck pretty often in open mode..
Where do you usually put a water filter? Before or after the tank?
I would get a filter before the tank like a screen filter, they sell them at Tractor Supply or othe places like that.
Reason is that it will catch trash before the Hudson valve so the Hudson valve does not get clogged with trash and stay open.
The water flows in through the top of the Hudson valve and there is a float there that will go up when the water level rises and it closes off the opening where the water is but if there is trash, grass, debris, etc... there then it will not close all the way and the water does not get closed off.
For the time until you do something, get a 3/4" pvc ball valve from Home Depot and install that there by the hose reel so you can block in the water if the tank is getting full and so you don't have to walk 100' or 200' to the water valve, you have one right there at the truck.
The Hudson valve will take up about 6" more or less so you will lose about that much from the top of the tank. If you have a large lid in the tank, you can install it there so when it is time to work on it, just unscrew the lid so you can get to it easily.
I installed mine with garden hose fittings so when it is time to clean the valve, I just unscrew the hose from the valve and not have to cut hose, deal with hose clamps, etc...
