My neighbor borrowed my pit years ago to cook a turkey outside and it turned out good, I have not tried that yet.
Since it is just me and my son most of the time, we just go to the restaurants on the holidays, too much food for 2 people.
I have not tried the fried turkeys but have heard from everyone that they are great!
