Isuzu or Similar Flatbed Trucks

Does anyone use one of these? I was wondering what type of mileage you are getting? Running two gas guzzlers all day is getting expensive and wondering if I could use the savings in gas to buy a used Isuzu or similar diesel truck.

We currently run a chevy 3500 with a 454 and a 1995 F 350, both gas with 14' flatbeds, both average about 6-7mpg.

I hear if serviced correctly you can expect 400,000 miles out of the motor?

We get 13-14 miles per gallon on our sweepers (mostly highway). They are speed restricted to up to 68 mph. The max speed of the NPRs or W4500 is around 74mph. If you push it over 68-70, it spends 9/10MPG. Craig runs NPR flatbeds, he might have more accurate figure on flatbed style.

David Saulque runs some of these in his fleet. I don't remember the milage he was getting, but he likes the trucks.

Some might say the Isuzu diesel engine is not as strong and powerful as the powerstrokes or Duramaxes (partly made by Isuzu), but in my opinion it is actually very simple and reliable engine that does not give costly surprises like the others. It is the best diesel work truck among all.

6-7 mpg VS 15-20. If you have good credit you could buy a very nice NPR on payments and still be ahead.

From the guys around here I talked to, you can't beat those Isuzu Flatbeds.

Call me crazy, but I want to stand out. I have always liked old military vehicles. I found one type that we are currently thinking about getting for the business. It's a Mercedes Unimog. Very heavy duty to haul large tanks, durable, diesel engine that can be ran on diesel, bio fuels, & more (from what they tell us). They say we can expect about 15 mpg. When we are ready to buy it (around $10,000), they will let us drive it around for a day to test it out and calculate the mpg. It's a military surplus co. that refurbishes military vehicles. Looking into the radio trucks which have an enclosed cargo bed with two roof vents (all radio equipment and tables would be removed), or a flat bed where all three sides fold down...

They are also one of the best vehicles for off road use...

Mike I've been trying to get my wife to let me buy a unimog for years. she says I have to many trucks sitting around the shop.
But, but, but it's for the business!!! It will be seen and remembered. It's a justifiable expense!! LOL! I think it will definately be a fun vehicle to own.
