Intuit/Homestead Website design...

Yeah, I know its cheap, but I am looking for a website designer. In the mean time I figure I can get a domain name and have a site aging. Might as well pop for the big $5 per month to put a temp collection of photos and biz info just for the heck of it...

Anyone have experience with using this system and does it have a option to add the html and seo to it?

Thanks

Thats the system I use. My sites not great but it gets the point across. Yes you can change your html settings and add html code and meta tags and key words.
Theres alot of other things you can do as well like mouse over effect for b & a photos. Scrolling text and images, clock, weather and calenders as well.

Good enough to get you started anyway.

All I found is a "Site Navigation Menu". Not sure if thats what your looking for but that was all I found for site map.

Sitemap is a text file with list of links of your website. It helps google bots to index them faster.

There are many free websites that will generate sitemap file. If you have a dynamic website or application like, blog or forum, each one has an add on for updating the sitemap automatically.

Register with google webmaster tools and tell google where your sitemap file is.

It is not something significant for your search engine optimization, but rather to help you with the initial indexing of your website in Google.

Good info thanks. It does have a blog feature.

Next question...how do I get rid of that cheap plug intuit has at the bottom of the page...since I pay for this service I do not need to have them on my site. If they want it there it will cost $5 per month and it will be in a shared link page only. Not on every page. Its not like when you get free biz cards and they plaster their name on the back. I understand if its free that they do have a right then...

Jimmy,

We have our website through Intuit/Homestead. I am very happy with it.
I took one of their templates and added everything else. Everything you see on ours, I put on it.
They do offer a web design service that seemed to be pretty reasonably priced. I think we were quoted maybe $500-$700 to design the entire thing. Since I had time to spare back then, I decided to put it together myself and save some cash. I love the fact that I can just jump on anytime and change anything, add pics, etc. I never have to wait on a designer to make the changes.

I would suggest using the "Search" tool for any question you have regarding design/setup. I used it quite frequently while I was designing ours. It is actually pretty helpful.

To answer your question about the plug at the bottom of the page, there is an option to add your name (or company name) and a copyright date but I believe that "Intuit/Homestead" will still have to be there somewhere.

Our website also came with email through Zimbra mail client but I am now looking at somehow switching over to Outlook. Zimbra just doesn't have enough space.

Anyhow, I like Homestead and have actually referred several people there.

lol Thats the same template I used. They do not have a template for power washing per say, but the water dropplings seemed to be the closest match.

How do I create or edit all the HTML tags, keywords and such? I tried the help button with it, but did not find anything unless I am overlooking something. I have most of my content written and have it keyword rich for what I want to target. It will be an ongoing process, but its a good start I think.

Did you download the Intuit Sitebuilder? Or are you using the basic customizer?
The more advanced settings are in the site builder that you download, its free

I have this MAC and they are not very friendly to foreign software(every other out there that is lol) I tried down loading the lite version, but no dice...

Chad- The water droplet came with the template.

Jimmy-Yeah, we chose that template because it was the closest to our company colors in our logo.
You are going to have to download the site builder for sure to be able to even edit your site and take advantage of the more advanced options.

You dont want the lite version. Its useless
Heres what you do.
Go to your acct. Click "my websites". Then go to options, you'll have 2 cicles to check from. "edit with sitebuilder lite" and "edit with sitebuilder".
You want the "edit with sitebuilder" That will take you to the one you want to be at for html settings etc.
I had a pop up for it and downloaded it and saved it to my desktop. That makes it easier to access.

Tried it before, but this is what I get...

SiteBuilder and Macintosh

SiteBuilder is not a Mac-compatible application. If you would like to edit your website with a Mac, please use SiteBuilder Lite our easy to use, online editor. If you would like to learn more about Mac-compatibility, please visit our Mac-compatibility help page.
Note: any website created using either SiteBuilder or SiteBuilder Lite will be viewable by Mac users.

Then when I try to DL the SiteBuilder Lite, nothing either. I guess Monday will be a fix or them canceling my account without charge. Actually when I try to DL the SiteBuilder Lite it takes me in a loop back to the SiteBuilder and asks me do I want it and I say ofcoarse, but you will not allow me you freak... lol

I do have an option to load it onto my PC, but wait. That will be hard to do since my 4 year old Son just DROPPED IT AND IT DONT WORK UNTIL I TAKE IT TO A REPAIR SHOP!!!

There, I feel much better now. He will get his one day when he has a new payment on the latest gadget in the year 2025 or so. I will claim it was Alzheimer muhahahahaha.
