If you are wondering whether to bid government jobs

I got in on a bid for an Air Force base close to here. I was told by the organizer that price is what the government looks for. After seeing the two companies that I was up against, I figured I wouldn't get a call for the hood cleaning. I did however make a couple of bucks selling filters. That 226 k sounds good, but I'd hate to see the amount of work that has to be done for that amount.

These government/ military bids are worth the effort as long as you are not afraid of the solicitation paperwork. It can be several inches thick.

They are all basically the same language. You have to be sure that there is not an odd ball specification in the offering, though. It can be really ugly if you miss something.

We won a bid job on the U.S. Corp of Engineers at the Waterway Experiment Station in Vicksburg Mississippi some years ago .. We would clean the kitchen on the bardge and inspect all the fire equipment .. It was a pretty good chunck of change ..We even had to service and "repaint" the Wheeled fire Extinguisher Units.. We Lost the account in 2002 . As stated a minority owned or female owned business ... ( Not Us) Oh well More power to the little guy. Every once and a while I will get a call from them asking us to come on sight and recharge some fire extinguishers because they say there current company does not offer on-sight recharging.. I know the company that is doing the job now and they are infamous for not tagging all the fire equipment..
This is one I would like to have back.. Anyone know how this " excepting bids from minority owned and female owned business crap got started?"

Okay, I now have a reason not to bid government jobs.
I have a contract with a government doing a particular task. They put out a bid for somethign similar, but not the same. They demanded a particular type of licensing, that I do not have in order to be able to bid on the contract. So consequently I could not be awarded the contract. Lo and behold, since I have some experience in this particular niche, I got a call today from the company that was awarded the contract. He said the contract administrator told him to call me to find out how to do the work, and what kind of chemicals and equipment to buy in order to fulfill the contract.

Imagine, I declined the information.

Hell no don't tell the guy anything.

Hey John, Dont knock the Women Owned or Minority Owned. It is a tool to get many doors opened for you, Ie: $ Goverment $ Contracts $. I think this all dates back to equal rights beginning with LBJ in the late 60's early 70's. I think there is even a poster among us who is Women Owned and is not a woman. I did some checking on D&B and found this out, all public info. Not a bad thing but a smart think if done correctly. And being a minority contractor doesnt mean you are the little guy, it just means you cant be a white male.

My wife is owner of our business. Do I then qualify? Also she is a minority - I mean how many pure Swedes are there in the U S?
