I got robbed today!!!!!!!!!

The mechanic tried to charge me 596.00 for a starter for my 7.3-liter diesel. He thought I was nuts!!!!!!!!

Make this a short story I handed him my offer, take it or leave it. He took it and I still feel like I was taken advantage of.

I cant stand auto mechanics@***@*@*@&&@^%%!))!&&@^@^^^@^@***@&&&@&@&@&@^^!^

Hey hey!! I used to be an auto mechanic!

I left because of the @$#%@#%$#@ customers who could'nt understand that by the time I spent 3 hours taking off #$@%$# rusted exhaust pipes just so I could get to the oil soaked starter(oil soaked from the valve cover leaking that the customer later says I caused), that some $#@^%$ engineer said, according to the book, that the starter could be changed in 30 minutes, and on top of that, the starter costs $450 because it's heavy duty and nobody remanufacturers them anymore, you have to buy new ones and not rebuilt, which is a good thing because the $49.95 rebuilt ones that have only been cleaned up and new brushes put in, only last a couple weeks and then it comes back and I have to put another one in for free that will also only last 2 weeks and eventually you end up just buying the customer a new starter for $450 just to keep them from coming back , after you have already put in 4 rebuilt ones over the last 2 months for free, so the best thing is to put a new one in to start with, and not all engines are 1970 chevy 350's where you can buy parts dirt cheap, and on top of all that the labor rate is $60 per hour for the shop and the mechanic is lucky if he gets $20 of that, not like it was in the "good ol days" when the shop split with the mechanic 50-50. Now for the 3 1/2 hours of cussing and fussing that I did to your truck and got paid $10, because the book said I should have been able to do it in 30 minutes and the bill came out to over $500 dollars because the parts were over $400 and the shop charged $100 for labor and another 29.95 for testing and $10 for "environmental fees" ( thats to get rid of used oil and filters because you can't just keep them in a barrel out back anymore and throw them in the dumpster when it gets full or burn the oil for heat in the winter because the EPA says it's bad for our health, probably is) and then the customer always argues with the mechanic because he is the one who worked on the truck so everything is his fault, and he's had enough and wants to go home and finally justs says #$@%^$ and keep the $10, thats why my $%#@^ tool box has wheels on it because it rolls out of this %$#^@ shop just as easy as it rolled in, and he then proceeds to back his truck to the door and load his tool box up and go to another shop so he doesn't have to look at those same %$#@#$% customers another day, he can look at some new $%#@#$ customers at the other shop until one day he gets fed up with it and decides to go into the pressure washing business and listen to more $#@%^$ customers tell him the the last guy did it for half that price, then why didn't you call the last @#$%$#@ guy to start with. Was it maybe because you chose the $49.95 job and over the $495 job and it only lasted 2 weeks? How about I get in my truck and you try doing it yourself this time you cheap #$@%$. The hell with work tommorrow, I'm going fishing!

Damn! I needed that LOL! I feel better now. LOL

Thanks Ron. By the way, that wasnt directed at you, you just opened the door.

Les

Ok Les no more of this *)@#^#$@_&#* and this )__+$()*^&(O now if you cannot kiss then kiss someones !@)(^)$* and smile as you say sorry sucker I just had to )^_)#&&@# or ^%@#) and t then Ron would have kicked me in the !!%%*.

Ron your truck is new it should have been covered under warranty, what gives, they do things different down in hot dry AZ?

Should have let your wife take it in, she would have talked them into doing it for less then half price.

Back to Les, ever thought of becoming a pressure washer mechanic? Just be sure Ron signs and pays you in advance, cash only!!

Les no hard feelings, you do sound just like the guy.LOL

the problem i have is that i had been told less than 300.00 tops. when i tell a customer a price with in reason if i made a mistake i'm fare. 595.00 was way off fare. the book said 8/10 of and hour and he did do it in less than 45 minutes. he only charge 1 hour. that was 60.00. i had no problem with the labor charges. over 500 for a starter, the dealer only wanted 303.00... your right about cheap parts, autozone 107.00, keep those parts.

I called my supplier and priced the part, this was the same place he bought from. anyway i told him the story and he shared the price the guy paid and i understood why he was trying to bend me over. the guy has bad cedit and owes money and is on c.o.d.
he actually paid more for the starter than i could buy it for. my price was 184.00 for the heavy duty.. he paid 347.00.. i dont have a problem paying someone a price agreed upon. but 595.00 was not the price i agreed to pay. sorry...i still settled for way more than i wanted and learned a lesson again...

what the H@@@ is going on here. I mean D### it sounds like a high school locker room in here, except we aren't talking about girls.
I have guy down the street who changes the oil, does minor repairs and keeps an eye on things like the brakes that my employees would neglect until the wheels feel off, he even calls if it he thinks he should have seen a truck for a oil change by now, so I can go check, and he's usually right. Sends me one bill at the end of the month. the only problem I have is it seems like every time I drop a truck off, he decides it's time to clean his shop floor, and what do you know heres a truck with a pressure washer on it. just in time. LOL
I guess thats better than asking me to do it, I would rather go fishing.

CHEAP

HEY... YEARS AGO I FOUND A SHOP THAT KEEPS A SMALL FLEET OF YELLOW CABS ON THE ROAD. ANYWAY THEY HAVE TO KEEP A MECHANIC ON THE CLOCK, BUT HAVE DOWN TIME AND WILL TAKE ON SIDE WORK . TWICE THEY HAVE ONLY CHARGED ME $200 (LABOR) TO PULL AND REPLACE TRANS IN NISSANS P/U. JUST MY 2 #&*%@# CENTS WORTH. DAN COSGROVE

He did well. Lasted 2 years on COD, over paying for parts and dealing with people like you! LOL.

I've got my own guy that I pay very well for work at my shop. Rules:
1 He uses is own tools.
2 he tells me what he will need ahead of time (if he can)
3 work is scheduled for one saterday per month - unless we have a 911 - then he must be available ASAP for at least a band aid until we fix it proper.
4 I pay CASH & have some beer to take home!

We are small and it works! I treat him right and he helps us when we are jamed up.
