I haven't had the best of luck with business, mostly because I am not a marketing whiz. Marketing and the business aspect are by far the hardest part of owning a business. Anyways, door hangers are cheap enough that I can make lots with my printer and then put them in the plastic hangers bags for delivery. I was thinking about having two half sheets with the following:

Why they should get their roof cleaned.
An on spot estimate??
A no obligation, no strings attached free demonstration.
Also various information about insurance, and what not.

How have these worked for you guys? I'm go to school full time, but am out by 11 and have 5 hrs to drops these off before my regular job each day.

Those flyers will work. With the way the economy is going, you have to target the high end neighborhoods in your area. The middle class ones are cutting back on our services. I'm sure others will say different, that's just what I've noticed is happening in our area.

Go out in the evening or weekend and knock on the door so you can sell them right away. Drive your rig to the neighborhood and be ready to do the demo right there. Don't give up! Don't stop until you have sold at least one job for the day.

If sales and marketing isn't your strong point, go get some book and start studying! You can get better at anything simply by reading some material and dilligently practicing and applying the information.

I agree with Chris. I would hit up the more upscale neighborhoods. If you are able to make several hangers with your printer, then it wouldn't hurt to hang a few in the middle class neighboorhoods but I would not concentrate heavily on those particular areas.

Speaking to people and trying to sell your service to them can be intimidating at first, so I would READ READ READ as much as you can about marketing. Check out articles online as well. Then develop your pitch and try it out on a friend/family member. Dont forget about possible questions customers will have. You need to be prepared for those also. Practice makes perfect. Good luck!

Have the hangers made by a professional. You'll get a much higher response.

You can fit two to a a sheet of paper. I get them printed at the local USPS or office store, both run 39 cents copy specials. I then use their cutter to divide them. I sue a homemade press and a hole saw to make the doorknob hole then cut a slit in them. Makes for pretty cheap door hangers.

You can use Keith at www.kbkgraphx.com.

He'll design a professional looking hanger for $175. He can also get them printed $375 for 2500.

Total $550 for 2500 professional looking hangers @ $0.22 each.
