How important do you rate google?

I had an approach from a web company that wanted me to sign on with them. the deal was that they would ensure that my business would appear in the first 5 spots on the page of anyone doing a Google search for pressure wash services. Being some what new to Internet business I am interested to know how you more experienced guys feel about the likes of this sort of affiliation. Do you have the same success as a lone wolf as you would with Google?. Being a cold turkey start up I am doing the mailbox stuffing, Newspaper adverts and I have just in the last week got a website up. Needless to say the finances are strapped so that has been an influence in not signing up at least today.

Companies have been running scams like that for years and with the wrong company, it can get you permanently banned from Google.

Those kind of companies call me each week and send me all kinds of emails every week.

Stay away from them and their scams.

Greetings from across the Tasman! Anything is possible but ask for examples. If they are doing only off site search engine optimization or seo (that is not tweaking your websites on site seo) then its unlikely. Help your own SEO out by adding a link to your website in your signature here on this forum.

I get the call and e-mail every week like Chris does. I just politely tell them "why should I pay you to be on the 1st page of google when I'm already there?, Have a nice day" and I hang up.

Search the domain of your service and town you live in ie: www.pressurewashingnapier.com...... if its available you will always show up.

Great idea and good foundation, works well but not a guarantee of top rankings alone, still need other factors working for you as well. Also .co.nz will be better in google.co.nz than .com

I agree. there is more to SEO than just the name, Why are the .co,.nz,better?

Not exactly sure if its a fact or not but I believe based on my experience its harder to rank a .com domain or .net (global level domains) in Australia or more specifically google.com.au than a .com.au, net.au or .org.au domain. Therefore if I was in New Zealand as Wash it appears to be, then id be going for the country specific domain extension, that being .co.nz

My cousin does SEO and said if you add google links to your site and visitors use them you will get recognition from them and better rankings.

All good feedback guys. Hear what you are all saying. .co.nz makes it a specific New Zealand site. www.wash-it-hb.co.nz will find me from anywhere. Must check out how to go about attaching Google links that sounds real good. It's a jungle out there as they say.

I put a classified on the NZ Trade Me. $20 for 90 days sounded like a cheap round that appealed to my scot's blood so I placed a classified at 10.30 am. At 2.00pm I get the call from the Web company with their wonderful offer." Sounds interesting" I said and " Oh by the way where did you get my number?" "From Trade Me" says the bright young salesman from the web company. "Oh Ok" says I " Can you match Trade Me's price? I'm getting 90 days coverage for twenty buck and so far I'm batting at 100%." "Ah um er No we can't" says the bright young man "and what do you mean you are batting at 100%?" "Well" says I " I have been on Trade Me for 3 1/2 hours and had 1 looker and a phone call. 100% response rate so far." "Oh" he said "Who was that?" I'm just about wetting myself by now and I said "You my friend you found me on Trade Me and you rang me. How cool is that 100% strike rate?" " Oh yeah right (nervous giggle) Umm can I call you Later in the month?" By this time I am fully laughing at him " Yeah Mate knock yourself out I tell you what ring me back when you can Match Trade Me for cost and them we can talk." All due respect to him he did ring back yesterday hence the posting, but the deal still smelled like fish.

I've had some go as far as telling me that I'm first showing up on page 5 or something like that. So some of these companies are outright lying hoping to find a patsy.
