I used an Olympic redwood toner stain (oil based) on a deck. I did two coats in one area that looked extra discolored. Now it is shinier then the rest and looks horrible . I tried to pressure wash it off to no avail. I then tried alittle paintthinner. Nothing. Any suggestiuons would be greatly appreciated. I just want to get it off then apply one coat.

Are you a home owner or a self proclamied wood restoration professional?

If you want to get the stain off then yes use a stripper to strip the stain. Then do the whole thing over again. The shiny parts might be areas that didnt competly strip and now its not letting the new stain soak in.

Is this new wood or an older deck? If there was no previous product down before you put down your stuff, you may have overapplied, causing the shiny areas. Wipe these areas with a rag & mineral spirits and see if any excess will come off (may be too late at this point). Your only other option is to strip the whole project, neutralize and stain again.
