How did you get in this business?

Always worked for someone else. Always wanted to own my own company and have people work for me. I started a handyman service when I lived in Texas, but there was just too much competition from a ton of illegal aliens you could get to just about anything for a meal and a couple of bucks. I had done a little powerwashing when I was in construction and basically liked it, although we did not do alot of it.
I had been pretty unhappy with the direction my career was taking and decided it was time to take the plunge. I looked at alot of different possibilities. I looked at pretty much anything I had experience with, but never thought of powerwashing. Then, my mother asked me if I could wash her house for her. Naturally I said yes. Who really says no to Mom, when she will just remind you of the 42 hours of labor she endured to bring you into the world? I did some research to make sure I remembered the basics. I did the house and it came out really good. But, the deciding factor was that I really felt good about it. And not just because it was my mothers house. So, my decision was made. I still have not gone full time, but hope to within the next couple of years.
My background is pretty diverse. Refinishing furniture, cabinet making, custom office furniture installations, Class II truck driver (everything short of semi's), Loading dock worker, construction laborer, sheetrocker, finish carpenter, pool installation foreman, CAD Operator, Warehouse shift supervisor, PC Technician, PC Support Analyst, Network Manager, Handyman, Inventory Analyst, I even worked for a company that packaged Craftsman Tools for Sears. I also did a few part time jobs in college like pizza delivery, McD's night shift maintenance and UPS.
