Hot water controller on Hotsy eating relays

Hello John, Hopefully you can help me. Once in a while my Hotsy 1295SS will use up a relay and no big deal. Lately it is using a relay each time I use hot water (use the burner). It does not matter if I set the dial to 140 or 176, when I am done I turn the burner off and then later I go to use hot water and the burner does not come on. I have heard that this is a problem with the control box that Hotsy uses and would like to know if there is something I can do to permanently fix this or change it out with something. Luckily I got the relays from O'Reilly's auto parts and for a while they have been working good but the last 3 weeks I have been changing out relays every day or sometimes several times a day. Any suggestions? My machine is 5.6gpm, 3000psi. Thanks.

The Original Relay is 24 volts not 12 volts. If you are buying them at the auto parts store they are the wrong relay. Get one from a Truck Shop or Electronics Shop. The coil rating is 24vdc because they tap off the voltage before the voltage regulator then run it thru a Bridge Rectifier. Might check that out as well. You can buy the Rectifier at Radio Shack for about 5 bucks. Go to a Hotsy or Landa Dealer and buy both if you can.

Thanks for the info John. I was told by a mechanic at Hotsy to just get one at an auto parts store so that is what I have been doing for a couple years now but lately I am going through relays like every time I use hot water.

I have no problem changing out the relay with a 24 volt relay if I can find it-I will call around today. But, the rectifier, would it be in the control box or somewhere else? Is it an easy change out like just wire connectors or is it soldered in place somewhere? Thanks. I had some other questions for you if there was a number I could call. Thanks.

I will call you today I don't like my Cell number all over the web.
It makes my bill way too high.

Thanks for the Call. I sent you an email.

John, Did you get my email about the manual?

I got a new relay and rectifier. The Rectifier I got at the only place in town that had the relay was not exactly the same as the picture you show which is just like the one I have.

It is in an aluminum box and I tried it today and it got very hot and the burner did not work with the new relay and rectifier. I took out the rectifier and put the old one back in and the burner worked. I did not want to try the new relay with the new rectifier so I used a spare 12volt relay I had that was new.

I will go to the shack and get that rectifier and when the new 12volt relay goes bad I will put in the 24volt relay and hopefully that will end my problems. If not, I will put in the new rectifier and hopefully that will end my problems. Thanks again.

I have an owners manual but I need a Date code or first part of the serial number for the correct one, Here is a wiring Diagram.

Thanks a lot for the help John. I had a few more questions. I remember and wrote down what we talked about a jumper between the #30 and #87 but was there one more that needed to be connected?

Is there a way to test the Rectifier?

I would like to know so I would test it when having problems. Thanks again.

Testing the Rectifier needs a bit of explaining. What kind of meter do you have?
Here is the short version of the wiring for you. To help you understand.

Okay I tried to keep it simple on how to test a bridge.

To bypass the Bridge and the Relay just remove them both tape off the two yellow wires so they don't touch any other wires. Then take the Red wire from pin 87 and put it on the burner switch. Done no wires left accept yellow.

Here is the New wiring without the Relay or Bridge installed.

Thanks John. I really appreciate all your help. Next time I am in California or you are in Texas, I owe you a Big Steak and some cold ones.

What do you mean where are you?
I am in Stockton California. I work in Sacramento

John, I am sorry, I forgot to let you know it went great. I got what you told me to get and no more problems. Thanks a bunch. I really appreciate it.
