I get paid anyway possible ( just as long as they pay " Money is Money")we use a cc machine that runs on our laptops .. The money goes straight into the account its nice.. We also take Paypal , Checks , Cash, Money Orders and Just about any type of money except for IOU's which in a way I guess thats what our 30 day accounts are.. But anyway.... I really love it when we get the GREEN>>> OH YEA BABY !!!! " SHOW ME THE MONEY "

Every credit card processing company I know of including PayPal wil cancel your account immediately if they find out you are surcharging for credit card usage.

This is very true...I was told I could set a price and offer a discount for cash or check, but could not add a fee for credit cards.

We take them, but don't advertise it. How about y'all?

Somehow the credit card part disappeared.
We not only take them, but advertise it too!

When we write a customer up, we get a credit card, or we do not go out, unless they leave us a check.
We have a cancellation charge too!

This keeps price cutting competitors from weaseling into our business.

When they call me and tell me they wish to cancel because they found a "better deal" we tell em about the cancellation charge.

At least when you have their credit card number, they have to call you back and cancel ?

Before, they would make arrangements with a lowballer, never tell you, and you only found out once you drove way out there!

FUNK THAT

Some months I have a few grand in charges, some months no charges at all. The service I use (Heartland) charges about $25/month plus 2.?%. No machine (phone it in) no software. Money in my account within 48 hours. If asked, I say we prefer checks, but accept credit cards.

You mention a CC Machine that runs on your laptop. Is that something different than the CC processing option within Quick Books or other accounting apps? I'm trying to find a reasonably simple to use CC system that my customers will be comfortable with. I currently have them fill out a CC authorization form, which is carried back to the office and keyed at the end of the day. Then the authorization gets filed in a locked file cabinet. Trying to get away from all that if possible.

We accept Visa & MC and advertise it. Not as many use them as first thought, but works great. We pay a service $15/month & are charged about 2% per charge. That's acceptable to me to have the money right away. Although we've NEVER received a bad check, it's still a plus to know the cards' good & the money will be in the account within a day. We used to accept American Express, but the % rate is ridiculous!!! They charge the retailer so they can give the carholders all those bonuses. I can't see how anyone in business today wouldn't accept credit cards. It gives the customer another reason to buy NOW, and upselling is easier when they're not writing a check.

We just signed on with authorize.net. They were really reasonable with their monthly & rate fee's. I have just found that more homeowners will spend more on services if they can put it on their credit card. I have people that want their deck stained but also need their fence done as well, and by allowing them to put it on their credit card they will get both services done at the same time. So a $300 deal per say turns into a $700 deal....
I will have the money in my account in 24 hours - thats better than a 2day hold on a check :)

Just for the what it's worth department, for those of you looking to take credit cards, I can set you up with one. I do it some on the side to help my dad with his business. I can give you some of the best rates in the business and you can do it on your laptop or phone it in. It doesn't take much to set someone up. The rates are 2.19% and .27 cents per transaction. Contact me either here or by phone and I can tell you more....256-683-6556

That is strange because in Iowa here fast food places surcharge, my chemical distributor surcharges as well as the state of Iowa surcharges for paying sales tax or payroll taxes online. We don't accept credit cards as of yet, but are considering doing so with a surcharge.

The state stuff is a "convenience" fee. I file my KY taxes on line with a card. It is supposed to be there to pay for the web site, the server, etc. Unless you're paying your chem supplier over the internet and he can swipe the card through a machine, you might look into reporting it to MC/VISA...if it's a problem. I look at credit card transactions as a cost of doing business. Some local acounts get a 2% discount for 10 day payment. Just goes with the territory. I even lose 2.5% of the freight charges because I'm not going to upcharge for the convenience to me of having instant and guaranteed money.

Here you only get charged the fee if you pay by credit card. All taxes are to be filled online. You can send in a check after filing online and pay no fee. Or pay a fee and use a credit card online.

I believe that most will not like additional charging .
