explaining to the customer how you do it and what you clean the roof with with out saying bleach and water?

Some one asked me today what i used and i didn't know what else to tell them besides chlorine and water lol

i could kinda see them loose the look in their eye . . .and i know none of us want to see that look so help scrappy out guys!!!!

I dont ever use the word "Bleach" or "chlorine". I tell them I use a mix of Sodium Hypochlorite, TSP, Soap and water. Most people dont seem to know what SH is. For The ones who do question further, I keep a copy of the A.R.M.A. Bulletin ( http://www.asphaltroofing.org/pdf/tb_217.pdf ) that explains that SH and TSP are recommended, in the truck, and that never fails to make them say ok. If neither works, I explain the "other" method, and thats with a power washer, even with low pressure. They always prefer my method.

Not sure if the bigger guys will agree with me, but it works for me everytime. Havent lost a job yet.

Sodium hypochlorite and a foaming agent to help the mildewcide dwell on the surface to kill the mold and algae.

Why lie?
Tell them the truth. You use pool chlorine and water.

If you use Apple Sauce you use Chlorinated Tri Sodium Phosphate.

Customers are'nt stupid, every post on this site is on the WORLD wide web, including yours, which BTW is asking how to lie about your chemicals.

I bet they are already reading your post and all the answers right now.

They also can smell the chemicals, what would you tell them then?

It's not lying. Most customers are uninformed.
If they ask what NaHCL is, I tell them it is chlorine bleach with additives to make it stick/dwell and release the hold that the algae and mold have on their surface.

Telling someone you use Sodium Hypochlorite isnt lying. Its just a nicer way of putting it. Most people I talk to have never even heard of TSP. So if you really want to confuse them, then yes tell them "I use Chorinated Tri sodium Phosphate with a surfactant." Thats alot more Customer friendly.

Nobody is asking how to lie. However, we are all in sales and to sell, you have to make things sound very friendly. There is no reason to lie. There are guys on here that have cleaned thousands of roofs with Apple sauce and other mixes, with no real issues. I havent cleaned thousands, but I have cleaned alot, and I do follow ups, and never once had a complaint.

Heck when I clean Hoods I always tell the truth about cleaning.. I tell my customers I use a heavy alkalid degreaser that contains lye. I also tell them that I use Purple Power Degreaser to clean the outside of the hood.. And Shelia Shine to polish.. The other truth is that I use a very expensive 3500 psi @ 4gpm @ 205 degree hot pressure washer with special tips , Wands , and sometimes rotary tips in order to get the hood and , duct clean to bare metal per fire code 96 ... Thats the truth... My customers know that it will cost them a fortune to buy everything to clean their hood properly and they will still have to get really nasty and greasy to perform the job themselves..

If I were in the roof cleaning business I would tell them the truth , Sodium Hype as well as special tools , pumps, nozzles , and in some cases the use of biodegradable degreasing chemicals to remove the really tough stains.. Also sell yourself as well as your equipment.. " We use a special process using special nozzles , pumps , and our XXXX Machine , to provide you with results that I am sure will meet your expectations... And so on...

I have had some of my customer try to clean the hoods with cold water machines, and degreaser ... But it just doesn't work... I tell them simply and provide photos to show them My Process Works...

The truth is we pressure washing and hood cleaning and roof cleaning companies provide a service that most people have some idea of what we do and what we use to clean the stuff we do,, but we are in business because we do what alot of consumers just dont want to do.. So really the bottom line when people ask me what I do ...
I provide a service , I do the best job I can to get your ______ Clean , I provide excellent customer service during and after the sell of my ____ service at an affordable and reasonable price...
Remember they are not buying a roof cleaning, they are buying you to clean their roof... Good Luck

one extra point...No matter what process you use, Your going to win some and lose some. There are customers who may not like chemical cleaning. Some customers may prefer a pressure clean on their roof, because theres less chance of damage to the plants. Others, prefer to take the chance on their plants, and opt to ensure their roof is taken care of properly. Just keep the customer happy and always fulfill what you tell them you are going to.

Hey Scott how is the weather in Texas ... I bet yall are getting busy ... We have had the 70 degree day weather and 40 degree night weather here and Mississippi and everyone wants something cleaned... I even had a dealership call me and ask how much I charge to wash and detail cars... Heck I had to check my website just to make sure I do not offer that service ,, I refered him to a good friend of mine that does that.. Basically the pressure washing season is here in Mississippi....

Hey whats all this I hear about severe flooding in Texas ...

Its picking up quite a bit here. Our weather is so unpredictable though. one day, its sunny, the next rainy, then windy, then rainy and windy, and the sun peaks a little.... The only problem is this damn wind! for some reason 3 or 4 days a week has 20 to 30 mile an hour winds! Makes for working with chemicals a whole helluva lota fun. This will be our first spring / summer so we're not as busy as we would hope, but its definately getting better.

DJ, Just call me. I tell folks what we use but most of the time, try to eliminate the conversation from ever getting into the how and into the results and benefits. Beautiful curb appeal and stain free roof outweighs hows and why. Sell on the benefits and not the technicals. This is the difference between a $300 roof clean and a $500 roof clean.

"great question Mr. Jones....We use several different chemical compounds in specific proportions tailored to your residence...... specifically..."
