Help with mix

Hey guys, I have a quick question about roof washing. I'm wanting to get into it but don't have the cash to throw down for a Delavan set-up from PT. I am already borrowing money to get my main stuff. I found a recipie for "Apple Cider" for downstreaming that consists of the following:

4 gal sh
1/2 gal Rubbing Alcohol
3 large bottles of Ajax dish soap

I have two questions. 1) Is this the mix I use if I want to run it through my units' chem injector? 2) Is this really strong enough to spray from the ground and get good results?

I'm wanting to run it through the PW chem injector, and spray it on with a 0040 tip (or the 0030 the machine comes with) and a ball valve. If it helps, the machine is a Delco Cobalt, 5.5gpm @3500 psi. Thanks for any help!

Hi Daniel,

Roof cleaning is much easier when you have a dedicated pump system like the delevan 5800 roof cleaning kit

You could use your pw'ng equipment with the addition of an X-Jet attachment.
This is not the most preferred method by most roof cleaning contractors but it will help you do the job correctly with what you have.

A 3-4% solution of bleach and TSP will do the job very well. Your downstreamer with an 0040 will not produce this ratio.
You will find a lot of info here about roof cleaning and are in a great place for learning.

Good Luck!

Hey Peerless you meant 30-40%right?

3 to 4% is right. Your cutting your 12.5% down to 3 or 4% by diluting it water.

Oh ok i understand what your saying. Thanks

It is always better to use a chemical pump, you can be there all day downstreaming.
Roofs can be cleaned by downstreaming, but hope you have all day!
Buy a Delavan 5800, use it instead.

Between using an X-Jet and a dedicated roof pump, I would stick to a roof pump because even though the X-Jet claims a 2:1 ratio, it really depends on a lot of factors like the length of your X-Jet suction hose, how high you are, the psi and gpm's of your machine, how fresh your bleach is, etc.... way too many variables to be consistent and depend on the X-Jet.

Don't get me wrong, I like the X-Jet, I have 3 or 4 of them and they are a tool to do a job but not the main or only tool.

I would just get the Delavan kit if you are just starting out and then when you get more work, then move up to a Bobcat or Bandit or UdorBandit or other type of bigger better roof rig but when you are ready and have work to justify the expense because there have been people out there and bought too soon and it sits and collects dust or they sell it.

Start out small and work your way up unless you are just a selling machine and can sell anything to anybody, then start out big. Good Luck.

I never used these but, considering equal flow and PSI ratings they should be the same. AC probably better if you consider the the possibility of the discharging of a battery during use. I think most guys have the battery issues figured out though.

Heck, for $35.00 I probably would, and it will probably make you money, and that's the ultimate goal. Then you can decide later what will suit your needs. Chlorine is probably gonna want to eat it up fairly quick, I would be sure and rinse with fresh clean water after each use to get the longest life out of it. I use a Polypropolyene and Teflon air diaphragm pump now and I still always rinse. Just makes me feel better.

Hey guys, thanks for the replys. I've been super swamped with other things and just now got to check this thread. So basicly, it will work with the d/s, but it will take all day? I'd like to try to d/s a few before sinking the extra money in to a 12v set up just for roofs. What if I upped the 12% in the mix and did away with the water? Just s/h and ajax? Think that would help?
