Welcome to Big John’s Country Cookin’ & BBQ and Meet the Hernandez Family…

Big John’s has been an Oviedo landmark since 1972. Opened as a drive-in and later billed as a country kitchen, with a “dine on our porch” atmosphere, Big John’s has been operated by four owners over four decades. Over time, the facilities have seen numerous modifications and add-ons, leaving the building with many obstacles preventing it from reaching its full potential. These obstacles will limit the new owners from making a living and realizing their dreams.

William Hernandez purchased this local, historic restaurant in May 2012. He and his wife Kim have six children and are working on their dream to build a family-friendly restaurant in Oviedo. William and Kim are facing many of the same challenges faced by those in a tough economy on top of a significant number of even greater challenges to make this dream a reality. William suffers from a genetic condition that limits his sight to about 60 percent. In addition, he contends with extreme light sensitivity due to albinism. Kim has a degenerative sight condition that limits her vision to about 10 percent and she will eventually lose her site completely. The Hernandez’s also have two special needs adult children requiring full-time care.

I found myself eating breakfast at Big John’s a little more than 2 months ago for the first time in nearly a decade. I had been invited to a morning men’s group and found out William was the new owner. I had previously met William through Oviedo community events. After a couple weeks attending these breakfast meetings I came to see that William needed significant help with his endeavor and began to volunteer my time and business coaching. Soon thereafter, my wife began to help with food and menu details. We quickly discovered that the facility was a huge stumbling block and there was so much to do for this family who had asked for absolutely nothing.

That is when the dream was placed on our hearts to help the Hernandez family in a BIG way.

Now, with help from many Oviedo and Seminole County leaders, we are planning a three-stage renovation to Big John’s as a blessing to the Hernandez family, the employees that depend on this business, and the community. I want to invite you to join this effort. Please call me directly if you would like to help bless this family and their business with everything they need to make this dream a reality. My phone number is (407) 832-1108 and I implore you to give generously to this effort.
Thank You In Advance For Your Support, Labor & Love,
