Help Stripping an old deck!

I have a family friend who asked me if I can strip down an old deck they have so they can refinish it! I will be heading to the upstate today for a job, and to let my parents hang out with there grand kids. The deck is old still has some old paint on it, and is weathered. I also think it was built from red wood. So my question is.. what can I get from a local store Ace, Lowes, etc that will work for this job, I don't have time to order anything from the net!
Any good home made recipes out there?

Call Bob at PressureTek. I've used his F-18 quite a bit it, sodium hydorxide based and works well. Using straight sodium hydroxide for the first time without really knowing how to use it on a deck may not be a good choice. It doesn't like plants or people.

If it literally is paint as opposed to a solid stain, forget about getting it off. You are best to clean, prime and coat with a solid stain. They do sell products to remove paint that are not nasty but they cost $50 per gallon for 75 s/f of coverage and they have to sit for half a day before washing. Sodium hydroxide without buffers and surfactants is too harsh for wood, especially redwood. There are several ready made stripping products that will serve a wood resto comapny well at www.theprosealerstore.com
