Hello,
I am writing you as one of the 30 people that are leaving for Joplin, MO Saturday, June 18th to help in the disaster response to a series of tornadoes that have swept through that town. 142 people lost their lives in this tragedy and thousands are now homeless.
Because of the desire placed on our hearts we have responded to be apart of this effort to help out brothers and sisters in Joplin. Many of the group are college students now on break. Needless to say funding a trip like this can be costly. We will be working with a Christian disaster relief organization who will coordinate our efforts, supplying tools and direction. Also we will be partnering with College Heights Church of Christ who themselves now have 70 families homeless. Ozark Mountain Christian College and some local families will be housing us for the week we are there. However there are still some uncovered expenses.
The uncovered expenses are, rental for another 15 passenger van, fuel, daily meals and emergency funds. We have budgeted $8,000.00 in expenses for this relief mission. That is about $260.00 per person. If we can get 400 people to give $20.00 each we can fully fund this relief mission.
More than serving the needs of the brothers and sisters in Joplin, this is an important, life changing opportunity to take a group of young people on a journey of serving others and denying themselves for Christ. Will you please partner with us in serving Joplin and enriching the lives of these future Christian leaders?
