Has anyone ever tried to modify a nozzle

Has anyone ever tried to modify a nozzle to change its use?

I recently drilled a white nozzle out with a 5/32 drill bit and when I use it it will allow my injector to pull chems in and it will shoot 20 to 30 feet out from the tip.

I have a M5 X-jet but hate the bucket brigade and this thing works just as good with downstreaming which is what I do.

Just wondering what you others guys have tried and if it works.

By the way my machine is a cold water 4 gpm unit.

what kind of chemical are you pulling through your machine?

NO CHEMICALS THOROUGH YOUR MACHINE FROM NOW ON. I also do not like the whole bucket thing that is part of the reason i went to soft wash with a direct apply and rinse down but if the bucket is what you have to do to avoid chems through the machine then so be it.

In my opinion, if you are going to "softwash", downstreaming is the way to go. (Excludes roofs.) Having one machine that can do all the cleaning (house and drive) makes more sense. Hot water makes flat work so much easier and faster. Heated (110* - 120*) water comes in mighty handy for washing especially dirty siding and the more gpm's, the better.

In downstreaming, there are no chems run through the machine. The chem injector is placed after the pump.

i have not washed a house with heated water i would like to try that i know heated water works a lot better. John do you just use a hot water pressure washer?

Always hot, though not too hot. At 8 gpm plus heat, housewashes usually go pretty fast. (2 to 2.5 hours for a typical 2300 sq ft house - including the driveway.) For some flatwork, I will occasionally crank the heat up, but with the price of diesel...

John, I know you been at this a lot longer than I have.
I see know reason for hot water when washing a house.
If your chems are doing their job, there's no need.

Don't knock it till you've tried it is all I can say. I worked with cold for several years before heat, so I know that cold works, but a little heat works better/faster - and time is $$$.

I would definitely like to try hot water soon.

I didn't think about the 1/4 inch hose barb thats a good one.

I also would like to try the hot water out but with the cost of the equipment, extra fuel and the upkeep it doesn't make sense for me right now.
I very seldom do any commercial work.I try to stick to the residential it pays pretty good here, and I can pick and chose the jobs I do since I'm a part timer.

I have tried modifying nozzles and such for a long time to get stuff to work.. and if you dont know me by now I can rig up some pretty cool stuff the actually works. But anyhoo I cleaned a roof about a few months back before winter and I drilled holes in nozzles , got on a dangerous ladder , and I even put a downstream on my machine that ran thru my old 200 feet of hose.. So then about 2 weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting a guy at the pressure washer place (where I Go for Parts ) he had a x-jet looking thing and man this thing was cool , I ont think I could ever make that... Also I have tried to make my own siphon nozzles for chems , ( which I would never run through my 400.00 pump ) then I decided by a pump up sprayer or a sureflo pump and make a sprayer because at 320.00 for hose and such , plus I hate toteing a bucket to the end of my hose its not worth it.. I did find a pump up sprayer at lowes the other day for about 40.00 .. This think will spay a good 20 feet with a standard nozzle... I also modified an old pump up sprayer with a 1/4 inch female thread at the trigger so I can use old worn pressure nozzles on it to get the desired spray..
When you start getting really , really , busy you wont have time to worry with fixing stuff , you just buy and go buy and go.. I learned this the hard way.. Oh yeah one last thing ( something my dad always told me ) You have to spend money to make money !!! ( Its true )
