Hand Shaking Works

A few months ago I was asked to speak to a group of CEO's and area managers that represented various interests in the South East, so anyway I spoke about the importance of keeping a clean building for many reasons. I covered the ones they already knew like, a cleaner building reflects better to your customers and what not, but there was a guy in the group who very frankly stood up and stated that his company has no customers that come to any of their facilities, and that why should he constantly keep it clean if no one was looking, I had to think fast, so I said, so you think that your employees are nobody's? He looked perplexed and said, no of course not, so I asked him if they were happy with the appearance of the facility, he said, I don't know? SO I told him to survey his employees and find out. Now this guy oversees about 500 employees at each location. So I continued on with my speech and left there shortly after.

Well OK today I got a call to meet with him and some others from the group, some of these guys are big timers that normally dint handle the mondain cleaning of buildings, but they all said that they did in fact survey their employees , and overwhelmingly they all said that a cleaner work environment would boost there overall outlook on the company as a whole. In fact I have been asked to give a seminar to a mega large retailer in the coming months.

So after spending about 8 hours with them talking numbers and logistics, we landed a little over 20 million square feet, with alot of the buildings multiple stories of 8 plus.

Just goes to show, when at a sales call work every angle, make them think, you just never know what will become of it.

Excellent job Joe!

Thanks for sharing that.

Dude I'm blown away by that right now - 20 million ft! :bow-down:Whats the scope of work?

Think about it as 20 mil divided by 35 or so large buildings, the scope is base wash exteriors, some roofs, some warehouse floors, some large concrete areas, so it is split into a few categories. Some buildings are 9+ stories so you have to take square feet dimensions add do some math. It will be a great project and hope to complete in 9 months or so. There ares some optionals that we will look at, like battery rooms, dump pits and a few hundred dumpster areas, so all in all we are excited. I am however afraid that they will want windows thrown in on some of the buildings, and that is where we have always lost $$$$, but we'll see what happens. There are also some options for buildings in different parts of the country and a few in Canada, going to have to mortgage the house to finance this one, thank goodness I bought dirt cheap.

Good luck, you've got an impressive operation going out there

Thanks for the impressive compliment, but way too early to celebrate that salutation. It has been a struggle to regain our market share, I was out of business for 14 months, and just got back in last March(09). We hope to grow to the size we were before our little hiatus.

Alot of the project we are landing are just good ole' fashion sales, keeping it on focus and never leaving any stones unturned. I will be the first to admit that I have left tons and tons of money on the table, purely by just not following up, but then again times were good back then and we could leave some smaller stuff behind to chase the big fish. Lesson learned, small fish are way more plentiful then the big fish.

I look foward to meeting everyone in Tampa this month and hopefully can make some solid connections.
