GX390 keeps cutting off...

Had the same problem with mine last couple of weeks. Ron suggested I change out the gas cap so I put one of my old ones on from another machine. It hasn't shut down on me once since changing it. The newer gas caps suck!!!

My GX390 lately has been running perfect for about 2 hours and then will shut off. It will crank right back up and run for 10-20 mins and shut off again. All maintenance is done regularly. All fluids are full. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Too much oil or too little oil will make it shut off

Gas cap!

Well unfortunately the gas cap wasn't the problem. Cut off on me twice today while washing a big house. I bought a brand new old style silver honda gas cap. Any other ideas? Thanks guys!

Disconnect the Low Oil sensor wire. If that solves the problem then look into replacing the sensor or keep a close eye on your oil levels.

I change my old gas filter out, and put one I could see on the side.

It sounds like its runs good until you get down low on fuel. So it could be cloged or just getting enough fuel until its low or when you run out. Take a long srew driver with a flash light and look at the filter that is inside your tank. Try to clean up or see if there is a bunch of crap in the bottom of the tank.

If you have any dents on that tank you will have a problem.

try filling the gas tank up! that happens to Larry all the time.

Hey was this ever fix?

Haven't had a chance yet to mess with it too much. I have been busy all week. It isn't from running low on fuel because it has happened with over half a tank left. Will have a chance Friday to look at it some more. Will check the filter in the tank. How do I disconnect the low oil sensor? Is it just the yellow wire by the on/off switch?

I will refresh this topic ;-) I had same issues with the same engine for the last...6 years. Most people are recommending to change the gas cap OR low oil sensor...
Last week I done some tests on my engine and the problem was with oil level. It seems that if your oil level is as recommended by Honda, your engine may be shutting off from time to time. I added more oil then recommended and it's all good.
Easy fix...

I recently encountered the same issue while doing a shopping center.

I am aware of the engine shutting off due to low fuel however, this time the engine is shutting off on a full tank.

When a SC is attached it appears to have a longer life but once the wand, or burner, are used it dies quickly.

Full gas tank, oil level is above full with clean synthetic, and no smoke or engine noise of concern.

I will be taking a close look this evening.

"Top-of the threads" is high-level for motor oil

This is one of the reasons I always tell people.. fill the oil up to the top of the threads
..on engines with that 1.5" dipstick..
.. that's an extra inch of insurance you will not overheat your engine too.

..and use synthetic !!! ..it is cheap insurance.

As for D2 dude (with no signature line)..
I think you have a slight obstruction in your fuel supply..
Since gasoline is such CRAP these days, causing fuel varnish "gone wild" in small engines..
try some cheap fuel-injector cleanerin te fuel..
the problem might just "dissolve away"
:{)
