Google ad

I got a call a while back about a Google ad thing. They set you up with a website and you are supposed to be on the top ten, and supposedly at the top five search results. I am considering doing it, but my biggest hurdle is knowing if pressure washing service is something people find through Google. I have had a yellow pages online ad and it got a few calls, but that is the only online stuff I have done.

So, is having a good search listing on Google a good advertising move?

Be wary of anybody making claims. It is hard for them to guarantee top ten. You can build your own site and google ad words. You pay per hit/click to your website.
It can be a decent way to get business. More and more people are using the web as a tool, although porn use still outranks anything else.

Or just start a porn site and probly make more money than with the pressure washing lol

Why do you think we use the term "Bare Naked Metal" in our advertising :D just kiddin...

There is a lot to getting to the top of rankings as far as search results go. I would suggest doing some research on what words people are typing in to find you and then direct your adwords, keywords etc toward that. Don't just follow what everybody else is doing.

Well Apple I think you've got a pretty big piece of the online pressure washing pie. I remember searching roof cleaning a few years ago and finding you. Good job
Thanks Dan.
Years ago, I had to answer roof cleaning questions all by myself.
Now, I have these forums to send people too.

So what you are saying is I should try to optimize my site for "porn" and trick em into getting pressure washing, I like it.
NO, Google will dump you like a red headed stepchild if you redirect.

For SURE.
Pressure Washing is a HARD business to make it in.
Too many DIY homeowners, and low ballers.

Really good advice !

Daniel,

Like 'Looking Good' said below, be very wary of people guaranteeing a top ten listing on any of the search engines. There's a lot of underhanded things going on with that. Most good SEO firms can move you up in Google or Yahoo, but it takes time, it's not something that happens in a week and if it does, then it's usually not legit.
As for your question, yes it's good to have a website, but I think I would have someone that I know is legit, like KBK Graphics or WebFirstCreations design the site, then if you want to have it optimized for Search Engines, mention that to them, I don't know if that's extra or not, you'll have to ask them. I wouldn't respond to the ad that you said you received, it doesn't sound good from what you are telling us. Hope that helps.

With all do respect dude, that's simply not true, I am on the first page of all the keywords that "I want" to be at the top of. I designed both of my sites myself and they are both ranking very high. I would NOT spend the money to have somebody build a site for me, maybe some graphics or something, but graphic designers ARE NOT marketers and don't know the first thing about it. Don't waste your money on that. I love Keith's work and he has made several things for me, but I'll design my own websites thanks ;)

Cool sites Ant. If I had a restaurant and lived in your area, I would call you because of what I read. Great info there.

Hey Ant,

I'm not sure which part you are referring to that's not true. I agree it can be done yourself, the part you quoted about what I said of moving yourself up on the engines, doesn't usually happen in one day.
Yes, you're right, I could design a site myself and I have. Not everyone wants to or can build one themselves though. Search Engine Optimization is a legitimate business and is in fact done by many Web Design Firms as an additional service. Not all Web Design firms are one man shows, and many offer SEO as an additional service to their clients.

I was referring to the comment about moving up in the rankings is not legitimate. I may have read your post wrong, forgive me if I did. You are correct that it doesn't happen in a day, but mine happened in about 3-4 days. I guess my whole point was for people not to pay hundreds and maybe even thousands of dollars to pay some company for what they can do by themselves with a little research.

It's all good, I wouldn't spend thousands on SEO either, and you're right though, if you research it, you can do it yourself, but for someone who might not be computer literarate, modifying html or css coding might be a little foreign. :)
