How busy should you be to hire some help? I know its a personal desicion, but just in general, whats a good guidline?

i think its time to get some help when its 100 dergrees out, your on your 3rd house, you have buckets, hoses, and brushes all around the property and your heart is going 90 miles a min. and you feel like your going to drop dead.

We believe any help should be hired before we need them. If I have work, not getting done, because I don't have enough employees, I failed. I need helpers ready when I get work to do. We usually hire a month before we get busy. They do not start till we need them. If need be, we will bring them in a week or two before for training. Thank You.

I agree pretty much. I just hired 2 guys start next Wed and will train them before we get more slammed than we already are. Stacking jobs on top of jobs, getting a lot of calls for the big jobs but a ton of calls from PM's & GM's for little PITA stuff, but seems like they want it all done before Easter. Man I love PWing

Hire as you need, if you just have a weeks worth of work, how can you hire anyone

I think rather than hiring "someone" you should take your time and hire the right someone.

Turn over will kill you if you have tons of work and lose a key employee.

You can train pretty much any abled body person to do this type of work but then you have to live with them.

Do they drink, lie steal, drive your vehicle like a crazy person. Think about all this BEFORE you take the time to train them. Really check refferences, DL status, google them ect.

We have a very extensive training program and I don't want to waste my time with someone who's just passing through or might quit and become my competion.

We also pay way better than normal pay scale, provide full health benifits including dental. prescription, and eye glasses.

I like to think of my employees as partners, treat them with respect, pay them well and they return that 10 times over.

On most jobs the only one my customer has contact with is my employee so they better look like they own the place and act like it too!

DONT wanna gie away ALL my "secrets", but hire ONLY those who can sell as well in hard times.
I can train any idiot not afraid of heights to clean roofs.
But what about when work slows down ?
My guys are on commission and salary.
In MY Company, those who sell are rewarded :)
My guys hang flyers, doorhangers, knock doors, etc.

I can't wait until my 8 year old son gets old enough to work with me. I went to pick him up from school the other day because had had a fever. He was selling powerwashing to the school office people while I was driving to pick him up. A couple of them asked for biz cards while I was there. Too funny!

I would hire someone reguardless of how busy i'am.

it should be a start up cost, if that what you want.(employees)

I think hiring employees is absolutely essential to doing business. You simply can't do it all forever. I've had employees from the beginning and know I couldn't have done all that I have without their help.

I have one employee that is a supervisor and I keep him busy no matter how slow the biz is because I know I will need his help when it picks up again. I look at it almost like a constant expense. Having employees also teaches you to price your jobs so that you can survive in the future when employees will be a necessity.

My theory on employees is if i hire a guy at $10 an hour I loose out on $10 an hour but still make $90 (just easy #'s) If i dont have that guy working with me then I am making $10 an hour.

I already make the $90 no matter what right?

work smarter not harder right?
