This guy was awesome. He was smaller than I thought he would be. We were sitting right on the front row about 3 ft from dead center. Shelly is very emotional. She believes that he portrayed Jesus accurately so just listening to him speak about the Lord was enough to keep her in tears.
So - listen to this. Jim is Catholic. Born and Raised. He came and spoke at a Christian church and the walls didn't cave in, the floor didn't open up and swallow us OR him and he gave one of the most inspiring lessons I've ever heard.
Mark 9:40 for whoever is not against us is for us.
I'm certain there were people there going through tough times in their lives and if they walked away from that talk without knowing how much God loves them it could only be because they were deaf or insane.
I was surprised how little he spoke of himself and how much he spoke of Jesus. I had read up on him before and knew that he adopted two Asian children with brain tumors who would have been left to die. He only briefly mentioned that he had two adopted children.
He told about filming of the Passion and how it messed his body up. He was almost dead with pneumonia during the last scenes on the cross and they had to bring in industrial heaters to try to keep him warm. But he said that he would have never been able to portray the agony as he did if he hadn't been that sick.
He was struck by lightening on the last take of the last scene. He said he was ready to go and would have been happy to die right then having completed what he thought he was called by God to do.
We bought the Bible on CD that was just put out by all the actors with different voices and sound effects and he signed it. We each got to shake hands with him and I told him what an inspiration he was in regards to the children he adopted. We got out of there fast because Shelly didn't want to say anything because she was so emotional. It was just inspiring to hear such words of faith coming from someone in hollywood. There's a lot more to the reason he is so inspiring, but I can't explain it all here, you'll just have to listen to him speak.
If you get a chance take a look at the live service tomorrow. It may not speak to you the way it did to me, but it was exactly what I needed to hear at the moment.
