GET a web site

To all who have web sites, have you ever done a survey asking how did you hear of my business?

Do you know how much business you gain from the web site vs. yellow pages vs. cold calls and referrals?

When your target area is say up to 150 miles from your home/office and the web site is national or international does it pay to have a web site.

I know a lot do for ego, bragging rights "hey my business has a web site" but does it pay to have one?

Show me the black and white?

Ron that goes for you too.

One of the best things about a website is that your email address will never change, regardless of your internet service provider..........you just forward your mail from your site to wherever you want..........can be changed in a matter of seconds.

Yes, I believe websites work. They are cheap enough now that cost ought not be a consideration for most people, unless you get into a lot of e-commerce or complex programming and maintenance. If you're wanting to put up a site advertising your company, listing services, showing before/after pics, and allowing a potential customer to request an estimate online, you should be able to fit that into even the most frugal advertising budget.

The reason I beleive they work is that more and more people are spending more and more time online, and online is EASY. I often see webpage listing on the sides of vehicles, and will look up those that interest me or are for services for which I have a need. Bottom line, it makes it more convenient on the customer to look you up, and allows you a pretty much unlimited forum to sell your services. You can tell a customer how nice their home/deck/driveway/fence/whatever will look after it is cleaned, but a picture SHOWS them how clean it can get. Heck, Beth has offered to do a webpage for folks here for $250.00, if I recall. That's CHEAP, and she obviously does great work. The registration and hosting costs are cheap now too, so there's really no reason not to.

I don't think it's an either / or situation (web site vs. yellow pages vs. cold calling). Having a web site helps to round out your overall marketing strategy. Other than the creation of the web site, the monthly hosting service can be as little as $10/month (without the service providers advertisements).
Depending on the business here is a list of a few benefits a web site can provide:
- Customer billing
- Customer surveys
- On-line estimates
- On-line brochure
- Customer education
- Sell products
- Offer your customers and clients another way of doing business because of this accessibility.
- Share important business information easily and quickly.
- Offer your potential customers reasons to do business with you while they absorb it at their own pace.
- Generate a greater awareness about your company and its products and services.
- Provide public-relations materials, press releases and other information to keep the public informed.
- Create an extremely powerful and inexpensive way to advertise
- Invoke a way to reach more people with less money.
- Your web site is a great place to publish your own list of "Frequently Asked Questions", or even the rarely asked ones. Well thought out questions and answers, in as much detail as you like, and exactly as you'd like it stated, can provide your customers with immediate help with their question, as well as provide customer service staff with a reference tool.
- Provide 24-hour accessibility 7 days a week.
- Offer a means to make people more comfortable to approach you.
- Provide beautiful pictures which are easily accessible (a picture is worth a thousand words).
- Internet gives you the ability to link to other web sites, and more importantly, have them link to yours. This allow customers to find your web site through several different channels.
- The Internet makes business-to-business networking easy and your web site serves as your "business card" to introduce yourself to people. By establishing relationships with other business and organizations you can provide industry-related information to your customers, employees, or colleagues.
- The interactivity also offers great opportunities for user networking. Hosting a discussion board where visitors can post and reply to comments and questions can be a great way to generate interest in your web site.
- Can help fill position open in your business. Announce it on your web site. The Internet has become a driving force in recruiting.

Regards,

A website can be a very inexpensive.

I pay somewhere in the area of about $200/year for mine and they have paid for themselves about 150x over!

If I hear from you by the end of the year, I'll give you the price even if I don't start working on the site until January....

C'Mon you guys, spring will be here before you know it and waiting until the last minute isn't a good thing....
