Float Question

You could hang a hudson valve in there from the top down, it will require about 6" of space from the top of the tank down. I have some on my water tank feeding from the top down and they work great. Actually the water enters the side of the tank at the top near the lid then there is a 90 degree angle there then the float is there, there are a couple others there set at different levels for different jobs.

The Hudson valve is rated for a lot of gpm's, not sure how many your float is rated for, have not used that type. The hudson float valve is like $20 more or less.

In the direction it sits in the pic, the on-off mechanism operates up and down. Jerry is saying to lay it hoizontal which would make the on-off mechanism operate left to right. To me this makes no sense because water levels fill up and down. Yes, I can make it work by modifying the adjustabe arm. It all just seems un-natural. Ive worked as a plumber for many years and understand valves extensively but can not make sense of this as far as top feed is concerned. If it was meant for side mount, a simple set of directions would be in order.

I think what Jerry meant was that if the water has to come into the tank from the top, put a 90 degree adapter from the top down into the tank and the outlet will be horizontal, then you can install that float valve.

When you mentioned that the water has to come into the tank from the top, that is Jerry's suggestion to make it work from coming into the top of the tank down.
I don't think Jerry meant from side to side, just trying to adapt it to work from the top down so it would work horizontally with the adapter.

It is designed to operate up/down so if you can drill a hole in the side of the tank near the top, you could install it there, just make sure you have room for the float to reach to top of travel so it will shut off, otherwise the valve will never shut off.

Hope this helps.

Another idea would be to put a pipe into the tank from the top then a 90 then another 90 so it will look like the letter J, then you can install it the normal way, on top of the little part of the j if that is where the water enters the valve, if the water enters from the side, more adapters can make it work, no problem.
