First Deck Cleaning Photos and Questions!!

So today was our first ever deck cleaning and I think overall it turned out pretty good. I used sodium percarbonate to clean and oxalic acid to brighten the wood. There was a lot of rain today that kept washing off my chem's making it a little more difficult. There are a couple things on the deck that I still have questions on though however.

First there are still a lot of dark spots especially under the railings as well as on the boards that I couldn't get to go away. Did I not clean them well enough? Is this just as good as they will get?

The second is what is the best way for removing the fuzzy's on the wood caused by pressure washing? I talked to Matt from Colorado Pro Wash and he gave me some insight on using an Osborn Brush to remove them. Is this the best option? Whats the best place to get these brushes? Are there other ways that might work?

Well here are the before and after pictures please let me know your guys thoughts.

you will get a better understanding of all the dark spots when it dries. I never know exactly what a deck will look like until after it dries.

What were your mix ratios?

About 8oz percarb to 2.5 gallons maybe little more. Oxalic was at about 10oz to 2.5gallons.

Yeah it is hard with the rain. Crap thing is that it is supposed to rain for the next few days.

50 grit and a palm sander. sanding will be needed sometimes. Right now in the back of my truck there 2 palm sanders dewalt and porta cable, 2 4x24 craftsman belt sanders, 1 detail sander and a 3x21 belt sander. I hope to buy a drum sander next year.

Any thoughts on the fuzzys?

Not sure if they still sell those pads you put on a buffer/polisher. I used to use that. I also used a green scotch brite pad while the deck was still wet to remove fuzzies. I think Greg from Timberseal used to sell the pads...don't know what happened there. I shy away from sanding because of the difference in color after sanding.

Found it!

you can get the makita 9227c on amazon

Thats cheap I think I paid $229 or something

If you plan on doing wood restoration, these pads and makita polisher make fuzzies a breeze. I used it on decks ater stripping. Especially cedar. You can defur a deck very quickly.
