FENELON FALLS - Erik and Ida Noske, owners of the Chatterbox Restaurant in Fenelon Falls, were found guilty on three counts for violations under the Ontario Fire Code. A $5,000 fine for not having a proper hood and fire suppression system was levied against the Noskes.

They were also found guilty for not having proper fire separations and failing to provide and implement an approved Fire Safety Plan.

“They had done sufficient remedial work on these two items, prior to sentencing, which brought them into compliance with the Fire Code,” said Fire Prevention Inspector Fritz Mattern.

The Chatterbox Restaurant was initially inspected in March of 2006. After several re-inspections and negotiations to obtain compliance to the Fire Code had failed, charges were filed with the court in January of 2007. They were found guilty in Lindsay Court in January of this year. The restaurant is not currently in operation.

Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Service reminds all commercial business owners that they are required to maintain an approved Fire Safety Plan along with ensuring their building complies with Ontario Fire Code regulations.

I wish more of that kind of inspection and enforcement was done here, it will save lives and possibly prevent buildings from burning down.
