Federal ban on cell phones in cars?

I never understood this, its not the act of holding something to your ear that is dangerous. Its the act of carrying on a conversation while driving that is dangerous. Its second nature to all of us, doesnt seem to take a lot to talk, but it actually takes a lot of brain power to carry on a conversation. Even given that I dont think it should be outlawed, it should however carry HEAVY penalties if something happens while your driving and yapin on the phone. HANG UP....SHUT UP.....AND FREAKIN DRIVE!

Texting is much worse. It requires your vision. I can't tell you how many times I have seen people weaving on the interstate just to pull up next to them and they are texting away. I hate the thought of any more laws but some people don't have enough sense to figure out that they can't multitask.

I usually try to call them later when getting calls in the vehicle but sometimes I do talk on the phone, sometimes I put them on speaker-phone so I can drive with both hands on the wheel.

There have been a lot of times I pull over so I can write down info or focus more on the conversation but I will tell them to hold on a minute as I am driving and am pulling over to talk to them.

I seen a device to put the phone conversation through your vehicle radio so no need to hold the phone and it would be a little bit safer. I think it was on the show "Pitchmen" with Billy Mays and Anthony Sullivan.

I have not seen it in stores but I think I would give it a try.

Back a few years ago we averaged 50k miles per year on each dry clean delivery van. Cell phones are necessary to run the business. Everyone used earpieces. No texting. We had a total of 7 drivers and from 1998 through 2006 not a single at fault accident. Probably close to 1 1/2- 2 million city miles over the entire period. Talking became second nature while driving.

You are right in most cases. Most people don't spend enough time talking while driving to get to where it is second nature and doesn't effect their driving. Texting is the worst thing that ever happened to the streets. We need text to speech technology that works.

That's funny!

If they really want to make the roads safer they need to ban the practice of cops pulling people over in the street and make them GET OFF THE ROAD.

Half of our rush hour traffic jams are because some dillrod has pulled a guy over right in the middle of a curve on a six lane highway for expired plates.
