Facebook plugins - who owns them?

There is an ongoing battle between the WCR guys and Phil Alexander over his use of Facebook to reply to posts on WCR. They have banned him from their forum but with the FB plugin he can read and reply to any post there. They claim it's their property and so he shouldn't post there but is it really.
Now I expect this post could derail into a dogfight but I'd like to ask that we behave as true business owners and discuss this accordingly.
Since no forum owns FB can they rightfully expect others to not use it because they ask them to or is that just wishful thinking?

Tim, I asked for this to not be derailed but I guess that was too much to hope for. I brought it here because it can be discussed by other professionals as to the pros and cons of the issue. Since it's an access issue I think it's worth discussing. I understand they are your friends and you feel the need to defend them.
I'm betting the reason why PWI doesn't have that plugin is to keep things like this from happening.
So do you have something constructive to add Tim or would you like to continue to misdirect and derail.

Plugins are typically owned by the author and licensed to end users (think Microsoft Windows/Office ...). If the plugin doesn't do what they claim, contact the author. If the plugin doesn't do what they want, stop using it and contact the author for a possible update to patch the hole.

I'm not familiar with any of the parties involved therefore I remain neutral.

You brought an issue that has nothing to do with this board here for reasons unknown.

This issue has already been discussed and nothing good came of the discussion.

If you do not own the plugin that you refer to, then why do you concern yourself with it?

I bet the reason that PWI doesn't have that plugin is because it is not installed here.

Some things are just what they are. And other things are not because they do not exist.

It really can be that simple.

Not everything is going to make sense to those of us who have nothing in it.

In order to mis-direct, I must first have the ability to direct. I do not claim that ability so your claims of misdirection are baseless.

What plugins do you have on your forum?

For the record I'm not banned over there, Jim.
Tim, this is a section of the board where we can bring whatever over and discuss it. I followed the rules set up for this area of the forum.
Derrel, you gave a very professional and well thought out response. Thank you.

I imagine these issues with cross-posting in general will someday be regulated or tweaked.
It's easy to say sitting at a computer, but I think if I were Phil I wouldn't even bother trying the FB plugin to weigh in on WCR. The reception is rarely if ever good, anyway.

I agree Dan. I don't think he should use it. However if you open your forum up that way can you expect to enforce who comes on? If you want to control the content and posts on a group you need to make sure those doors are closed. I understand they want to control their distributor forum from competing salespeople. I think more and more people understand that is what is at the root of this trouble. But the hard reality is that to have that control may mean removing the loophole.

You come in my house, I tell you to leave. I don't care if I take the door off of the hinges, if you walk in my house again, there will be trouble.

The fact that the door is off the hinges does not give idiots permission to enter.

So, perhaps the question should be what would possess someone to go where they have no business and have been asked to vacate?

Where is the personal responsibility for ones actions?

Why are you not distraught at the apparent fact that people seem to lack common sense?
