F350/450/550 AC Compressor

We need this truck back on the road quick so we are going to buy a new compressor and put it in tomorrow.

It looks like a tough job. Has anyone ever changed an AC compressor on a 6.0 Superduty? Once it's loose which direction does it come out. I can't get anyone to do it faster than this weekend, so we are going to do it in the morning no matter what.

Tony go to www.powerstroke.org and ask.I'm pretty sure you can get an answer over there fairly quick. What are you going to do about recharging the system?
OR
Go to www.motorcraftservice.com order the online service manuel.

Thanks, I'll worry about that later. I don't want to move all the equipment off that truck and throw it on a rental, we've got too much due right now. When we get caught up I'll switch out the other AC equipment and have them charge it up. I just need a PULLEY right now to get it on the road by Thursday!

Gotta love fixin stuff under pressure! Good luck.

I do know that in order to get the fan belt off you have to cut the radiator shroud in half.....................nice.

The 6.0 was not one of fords proudest moments. If you do just replace the compressor make sure to at least add the oil to the system to keep the internals lubed until you can recharge it.

Or you can pull the cab of the truck off. It's what they do at the dealership.

I know, I've had two turbos and an engine completely replaced before 50k miles. It is funny to see it with the cab off.

Glad you got it all done, I bet that is a relief.

It just means no Saturday off this week. But since this day is shot anyway and it's 106 degrees, I'm out to jump in the pool and enjoy the rest of the day off!!

Thanks for your help guys. You helped me find all the info I needed.

Tony, peace be with you friend---if you have a bad compressor, your a/c will never be the same again. We have 6 Fords, and 4 of them have jacked up a/c's. The compressor goes bad and sends shrapnel through the whole system. Every time a little particle gets stuck in that little tube, the a/c doesn't blow cool.

Last year had a new truck that I prob had at the Dealership 7 times to fix the same problem. The shavings just kept cycling, and my fat butt never stayed cool. I love my fords, but their a/c systems leave something to be desired.

Thats amazing the number of times things go back to dealerships for repairs that are not done correctly the first time. My neighbor down the road owns a fleet service company and has one of the 2007 Ford cab over service bodies. It has a intake valve that blows oil by the seal and since it is under warranty he keeps taking back to Ford to get it fixed... 3 times.
I know because he allways calls me to ride him home from the dealership so I get to hear the complaint all the way home.

I know about the debris in the system. This truck is used mostly at night anyway when the temps are in the 90's.

Chris ended up just getting a new clutch assembly and pulling the fuse on the compressor till we have four or five days to leave it with the thieves. I'll have them pull out all the parts, flush the system and replace everything then.

The compressor didn't even come off the truck, just the clutch. Then we pulled the clutch fuse so it can't turn on till we can fix it.

And Roger, turns out you only need to take out two belts at the bottom of the shroud and pull the shroud back about 1/2 inch to get the belt on. Maybe cutting the shroud was on the 7.3.

Not too bad though. We're up and running tonight and in the morning.

Every air conditioning system in any car sold in the US, if the compressor fails, all parts should be replaced because of shrapnel in the system. That is just what needs to be done. If someone tries to save money by not replacing everything, you are getting exactly what you are paying and paying and paying for.
