Explaining black streaks/oxidation

What is a good way to explain to people why their home and gutters might not come as clean as possible with regular house wash mix and price.
Also, what exactly causes it to happen worse on some surfaces or why it happens at all. I find myself not wanting to quote the gutter upgrade at all because alot of people calling me are calling everyone in the phone book and I dont want my price to be out of line.
Giving them a price on the house and then a sepreate price for upgrade would be best. But then they say just price cleaning the areas that dont come clean. Charge for upgrade of those areas. We have no idea of how much want clean up. A set price per foot of those areas is an option.
Just some thoughts.

When they call me and ask for a quote, I ask them if they want the gutters cleaned or just the house wash. I explain to them that I want to make sure that I'm pricing what they want cleaned because every homeowner is different in what they expect. I even tell them that some businesses in the area don't clean the gutters and I just want to make sure my price is in line. I explain to them that I have a special chemical that is used to clean the gutters because the regular house wash doesn't remove the black streaks.

electrostatic bond - a chemical bond in which one atom loses an electron to form a positive ion and the other atom gains an electron to form a negative ion.

...... in alot of "streaking" cases, the negatively charged ions in the creosote of the shingles ( or tar paper under shakes will adhere to the positively charged ions of the resi ( gutter) causing the streakage.

The reason you see heavier streaking in some areas is that the run off is simply,.... heavier.

Sometimes a housewash mix will break the bond, but in most cases you will need a butyl based cleaner that is a bit more agressive.

could you please translate that into redneck for the less fortunate?

Sure man,

Basically you need some strong chit to remove the black chit.
If you have weak chit, that chit ain't budgin.

( but with your growth these past few years, I certainly don't consider you less fortunate.......... Right on!!!!!)

whew I feel better now!

So I take some real strong shit and rub it on the dirty shit and then I rinse the shit out of it and it will look good again!

Personally, I include washing the exterior of the gutters with all my house washes - 58 scheduled for May.

I do explain that gutter streaks don't come off with pressure or a normal house wash. In fact, they need to be manually brushed.

The streaks are from rain running over the asphalt shingles and dripping over the side of the gutter. Butyl-based cleaners work, I prefer Simple Green. If your chem is too strong, it may remove the finish on some gutters.

good idea John, we do the same thing as well:dance3:

I too include gutter cleaning with my house washes. Just charge a little more for houses with gutters. I do explain that not all gutters are the same and some dont come as clean as others. I use f13 and probably 90% look new again. On the other 10% I know we did our best and have no problem saying that.
