Has anybody had any problems with ethanol in the fuel. one of my machines began cutting off like its not getting fuel. I just thought it was a fuel pump but then my other machine starting doing the same thing. both pull from the same tank one is a 20 hp honda and the other is a 23 hp briggs both new motors less than 300 hrs. I think its from ethanol I've checked my fuel pumps filters and everything else I can think of except rebuilding the carbs. any Ideas or areas i need to check.

Actually ethanol acts as an emulsifier if water is present in gasoline. It's what us Yankee's add to gasoline in the winter to prevent gas line freeze. It allows gasoline and water to mix and burn up in the engine. Ethanol does cause some problems in engines due to eating certain types of gaskets and seals but the small amounts of ethanol shouldn't cause it to stall.

Both having the same problem sounds like possibly water in fuel. Water settles to the bottom like vinegar and oil.

Hey Greg

Found this on the net...

Ethanol has a cleaning effect on tanks that releases fine metallic particles which will pass through most fuel filters. The dissolved metals will clog fuel injector nozzles and carburetors. Ethanol added to a fuel tank contaminated with water will cause expensive repairs. The water in the tank will combine with the ethyl alcohol to produce a noncombustible layer of liquid in the tanks that will stop most engines cold.

hope it helps a bit... good luck in getting it fixed.

Did you get that job taken care of? I'm back up and running if it's still needing done.
