I had a 16hp Vanguard give it up last night. Fortunately the job was local and the crew just went back to the shop and picked up the portable backup unit.
This is the second one to go out in 4 months. Same problem , motor siezes up, on the rear crankcase cover it breaks a hole thru the case at the camshaft. Very strange for it to happen to two engines. Both units had over 1500 hrs. Changed oil regular and regular service. No sign at all something was about to happen. I tend to keep equipment until it is used up. When Im done it is done, wore out, ka put, 86ed. Anyone else ever wear out a vanguard?
Anyway Im upgrading to a 18hp. Reason is, Its available sooner, fits my application, and is 250.00 less than a 16hp.
Call Jacks Small Engines as per JohnB suggestion a while back. Thanks John .
I tried to get one local first but no one had one available and would take 10 - 14 days , bummer.
Vanguard seem to be reliable and hard working, no complaints.
2000 hr = 120000 miles ( 2000 hrs @ 60mph = 120000 mi ) If you look at it that way thats a lot of miles.
