This is from an article in the St. Petersburg , FL Times Newspaper on Sunday.

The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?"

I think this guy nailed it!

Dear Mr. President:

Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy.

Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.

You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force.

Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new American CAR. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!

If more money is needed, have all members of Congress and their constituents pay their taxes...

If you think this would work, please forward to everyone you know.

If not, please disregard. Then shoot yourself!!!! 1 job opening
 
Can we drop that down a year? Actually, I am pretty sure that 40,000,000 times 1,000,000 is 40,000,000,000,000. That is a heck of a lot of zero's even for Obama.
 
Sounds like a great plan to me.
 
I think Obamas plan involves, taxing the rich, (anyone with a job) and giving the money to people so they don't have to work. I have found that most want a job but they have a hard time scheduling work around their personal life. So more than likely although your plan is sound in theory it will never work. We would have 40,000,000 jobs with no applicants.
 
I say all people on welfair need to preform some type of service or work. they can go around sweeping the city streets. work at the recycling center. file bs papper work,etc.
Some are disabled and some are in a bed but most just dont want to work and get a free ride. gets me mad! the US needs to stop giving out these things for free. If I have to work to feed my family,why dont they.
 
People on taxpayer handouts should be made to dig holes and fill them back in again ... all day ... that should make em want to go and get out there into the work force.
 
I agree, there are some people out there that are not able to work that are handicapped, disabled, spine problems, etc.... but there are lots and lots of others out there that there is nothing wrong with them so they should work.

Problem with doing away with the free handouts is that crime will probably go up so they will end up in prison or jail so we are back to providing for them one way or another.

Hard to come up with a good answer for the huge problem.
