What do you wear when you approach customers?I know sometimes they will walk up on you as you are cleaning and are dirty.I'm talking about giving estimates or making calls on PM's or managers or business owners.

We always have on a Cajun Cleanin' T-shirts when we are working but I'm about to get some embroidered Shirts made for calls and estimates.

We usually all wear khaki shorts and tshirts when we are working. My t-shirts are green ,brown ,grey ,and yellow. What do you and your guys lok like on the job?

T-Shirts for the crew, and when I'm working.

I went to Sears and bought 6 quality Polo type shirts, took them to my friends shop (AZ Biker Leathers) and they did the embroidery for me.

I checked with a couple other local shops (Embroider Me, etc) and they wanted a $95.00 digitizing fee, plus their cost per shirt was 4 times what I paid at AZ Biker Leathers http://arizonabikerleathers.com/

Clean and presentable is a must when dealing with customers. My humble opinion.

On the job we wear either khaki shorts or black windpants if its cold, and our confident roof cleaning dark blue poly shirts. Nothing can be stained, n o matter what. If our khaki shorts get bleach stains, new ones have to bought before the next job. I understand we get dirty during cleaning, but I refuse to let a customer walk up on us covered in bleach or other stains. And no budwiser or marlboro hats or anything like that. Hats are good, but they have to be nuetral, like a nike, or under armour, or even a college hat is fine. Theres also no smoking on customers properties. I know, Im picky but with all of the hacks/illegals that run around and try to pass themselves off as legitimate contractors, I like to show the difference. Oh and the truck and trailer have to be clean.

For estimates, either khaki pants or jeans and an embroidered polo. I never wear nasty work boots. Only nice work boots, or dressier shoes. Usually nice work boots.

I'm going to go out against the grain on this one and I know it's different depending on what kind of work you are doing.

But I've recieved some of my best responses from property managers, building owners and higher ups when I've come down from doing a quote filthy.

I keep my hands clean with hand cleaner and purell, but it seems they give you more credibility when they see that you're willing to get dirty to get the work.

I've tried it all, Polo's, Summer Silk shirts, Tshirts, Uniform work shirts, Khakis, Shorts, Work pant's, Jeans.

It seems to me that enthusiasm and the willingness to do what it takes to get the work holds a lot more water than being clean and presentable.

This may not apply to your line of work and may not apply in your area. (People in Tennessee still wear business suits to meetings in the summer. They wear shorts and silk shirts here.)

When working I will use the logo'd T-shirts but when giving estmates I will wear the embroidered polo's or the T-shirt but will change the shirt if it is dirty or sweaty from a job I just finished.

When they come out when you are working, not much you can do if you are dirty or sweaty, just try to be presentable when done or on your way to the next job or estimate.

I keep extra shirts in the truck for that.

Embroidered gray button ups, short and long sleeve, gray work pants. When I give estimates or cold call I wear blue jeans and very nice long sleeve button ups with logo.

If I am meeting with a corporate office I wear slacks and a blouse with heels. If I am meeting with a homeowner or basic commercial property I wear a navy blue polo embroidered shirt, jeans and my pristine pair of leather doc martens or sometimes my Nike Shox. When we are onsite we wear our screenprinted navy blue shirts and jeans with workboots/rubber boots. In nasty weather we have heavy duty embroidered columbia ski jackets (got a great deal when gart sports went under!!)

Most of the time we get approached when we are covered in muck and crap while getting fuel or food....

while working, a kleen crete shirt and jeans or shorts, When meeting, a polo shirt and no pants. Remember you have to stand up, I mean out. Make them remember you longer than anyone else.
