Dot / highway patrol got me!!

This weekend we was adding more equipment on trailer and was driving to the shop....Memorial day troopers everywhere, seen one up ahead so rolled down windows (tinted windows) went thru intersection and here he comes.
Asked for my Medical card (with insurance's card, trailer reg. ect.) I said Whats that?
He gave my truck and trailer a complete inspection and I thought I was finished....then he asked if I could roll up my windows!!!!! Great, he even going to get me on that.
After a good 30 minutes or so he gave me a long list of thing to do to be DOT compliant.
The biggest thing was not having a breakaway switch and he told me to put on this big orange sticker and when I got to where I was going to shut down and don't move trailer till one was installed. (We installed one by the end of the day)
Over all he was real nice and he did not give me a ticket, just a warning and list to become compliant within 15 days.

It is coming everywhere and they are getting a lot more serious.

Breakaway brakes are usually required for trailers with 2 axles that can hold 4000lbs or more so it needs to be added. You can do it yourself, the kit is around $60.00 I think.

If your vehicle is logo'd or lettered and you are pulling a trailer, the trailer will have to have an inspection sticker (2 axle trailer most of the time but I heard that all trailers will need inspection stickers now).

There is more things that they check for but that is just the visual stuff. Tanks, chemical containers, anything that holds chemicals needs to have the proper labels and the msds sheets for every chemical you have with you on the truck or trailer needs to be within arm's reach when you get pulled over.

Enough rambling. If you want to know more, just ask or PM me about this stuff.

Congrats on the luck!! Glad you were able to get it fixed quickly!

We were in Cumming for the weekend and as we were going over Buford Dam we saw a lot of people who were not as lucky. HA! It looked as though they were setting up a road block for later also. Forsyth County. I had never seen them through there because that is normally Army Corps of Engineers who patrols that area.
