doing my first fence

I just stripped and brightened 12 decks at a condo complex. The association likes the work I’m doing well enough thus far, that they now want me to strip/brighten/seal 250’ of privacy fence, also. This fence separates the complex from a fire station. With any luck, I’ll get approval from the Fire Marshall to do their side also, but if not, I have a few questions…

1) I don’t think this fence has ever been sealed, so it may just need a good wash with a sodium percarb solution. How can you tell if there has ever been a sealer on wood? Just splash water on it and look for beads?

2) Even with tarp or plastic hanging behind a fence, how do you prevent some over spray from running down the opposite side along the cracks?

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

question 1] you ans. it yourself
question 2] if the condo people dont care enuff to maintain both sides, why do you care about the drip's.
It's OK TO LET ONE SIDE DETERERATE FROM UV AND WEATHER BUT NOT THE OTHER? HMMMMMMMM.
Oh well the customer is allway's right. Paying customer that is.
On another post you said the OTHER side if faceing a FIRE DEPT.
I sure hope that everying is up to code. Inside and out.
I would'nt want to live their if you get the firemen pissed off at you.
They are good friends with the inspectors and cop's.
Also any permit's the condo people might be wanting to get.
If i were you, i would strongly suggest that they pay you to do both sides.
Maybe it's not like that where you live but where i live. You dont piss off the fireman or the PBA. It can really hurt.

Excellent advice, Ron. Thanks.

Lucky enough for me, my father was great friends with SEVERAL of the Warren, MI firefighters before he passed away. In fact, some of them from this very station. I have been parking my rig in their lot while doing the condo's, after having asked for permission and doing some name dropping.

It was an interesting thing that I was talking to one of the firefighters in the station while standing next to a fire truck that had a plaque on it, stating it was donated by the Paslin Co., which is owned by one of my dad's best friends. I, of course, pointed this out in the conversation;)
