Does anybody else hate squirrel cage fans???

I don't know maybe it's just me but I really think that squirrel cage fans for grease exhaust systems are a BAD IDEA.

They seem to be pretty common in So Cal. I see them everywhere as i drive around doing bids.


I am wondering if anyone else else around the US runs into places like the ones in the photos??????

I have more like the ones shown below but these were the best (worst).

Does anyone else fell the way I do or am I just crazy????

I think they are like anything else, if they are mantained they are nt so bad. Assuming they have a drain so you don't have to use a vacuum to get the water out, I hate those.

Do you have any idea how many times I have said " if the guys who install them only knew"? I should have in the next few days some pictures of a McDonalds fan that is welded down and a McDonalds fryer that is installed with metal brackets welded in place so you can't get you can't move the fryer out at all. HMMMMMM
 
I think that sometimes these fans are installed with as little cost as possible without regard for cleaning & maintenance.

Bryan - can't wait to see the photos of the Mc D's.

Nice to know that I am not the only one out there thinking about these things.
