Distributor question

Are there any distributors that you just refuse to deal with? In the Phoenix area, there are 5 major distributors. The least expensive one charges .39 cents for a Buna oring. There are distributors here that charge as much as $2 for an oring, and installation is another $2. What are your experiences? Please dont mention names in a negative post, just experiences.

I was charged early on in my career 1150 bucks to replace a ts2021 on warrantee.

Scott please do not ever share that number I gave you the other day. He will only take you as a client as a referral from me. I'm not kidding. He hates contract cleaners and refuses to work for them. I think that is largely the problem.

Hey Scott- I know some distributors that do not like to deal with contractors(there not known on the net) and they have some nice municipality contracts. Military contracts are one of them. So when you go to buy something from one of them it cost alot more. The flip side to that is that there very loyal to there customer as in getting them whatever they need ASAP.

The only story I can tell you from my experiences was around 1998 I bought my first belt driven cold water Powerwasher from a local distributor(who 2 yrs later sold his distributorship) for $2300 +tax. It's your typical 11hp 3.5 gpm 3000 psi PW. It was a year later when I found the Powerwashing bulletin boards and distributors on the net I saw the same machine being sold for a $1000 and more less.

The draw though was the service. This distributor also charged at least double to triple on tips and other smaller items.

Today because of the net everything changed especially for us contractors... But when I need something right then and there I still deal with one or two local distributors because of there service.. And there not cheap. They also don't advertise towards us contractors. One of them hardly advertises at all except for a name and phone# but if I need something fixed or a part we can get it.

My local guy sends me a bill for $50 everytime I call and ask for a price.

Sent me a $25 invoice when we sent him a Christmas card. Memo said "Labor: Letter opening, evaluation and disposal fee."

Unfortunately, bad distributors are common because they think most Contractors are not as educated as they are, which in some cases may be true. But there are several Distributors that have stepped up and filled this void, Distributors that actually want to work with and respect Pressure Washers and are picking up a lot of business.

I have a local Company I work with, I'm not saying they're the greatest in the world, but when I've had equipment go down they stopped what they were doing to get me running again.....To me that speaks volumes. Because we spend a bunch on chems with them we get a discount on labor.

Good local Distributors are out there, you just have to find them and let them know you want to build a "Business Relationship" with them, by that I mean spending our money with them and referring other Contractors to them.

I like them referring business to me.

Today Bob from Pressure Tek went above and beyond for me. It's great to have excellent service and great prices at the same place so close to home.

I pretty much by everything I need from Paul K at Powerwashstore.com Great service, fast shipping, and anytime I have a problem with a machine he walks me through it over the phone. Free Training and Repair, can't beat it. I have taken pictures and videos and sent them to him via phone and I get an answer back immediately.

There are good and bad both local and not so local.

I will say I had a deal with the cable company to get the internet hooked up. Wanted to have the cable ran into the office. The crawl space under my house is SMALL. And wouldnt you know the guy they sent (subcontractor) was a 300 plus pound dude. They advertise all the time about FREE Installation. So about a month later I get a bill for 125$ for subcontractor fees. When asked they said it was for the installtion. I was the one who climbed under the house while he was in the office. I was the one who pulled the cable. And I was the one who drilled up thru the floor. I just laughed at the people when they said they would cut my cable. Being a contractor, I went and got on Quickbooks and printed up a bill for 250$ (our hourly rate) and faxed it over to them. The next day a regional manager called and said he didnt know what I was thinking. LOL. I told him to pay the 250 and he will get his 125. He said thats crazy. I said crazy would be calling the local news and telling them you wont pay your bills. I got 6 month free cable and 6 months free internet. Thats how we roll...
