Difference between Belt Drives???

On a Hydrotek PW that I just purchased which is a 12 volt, on the spec sheet it says Gear Belt Drive.

On the Hydroteks with the Generators, on there spec sheets it states that they are V-belt drive.

What is the difference between Gear Belt Drive vs. V-belt drive??
Is one considered better then the other??

I know that Belt Drive is better then Gear Drive which is better then Direct drive Powerwashers. Now I'm reading there are different Belt drives.

I agree, gear belts suck! While I have never had any experience with them on power washers, I had a car once with an overhead cam and a gear belt timing belt. Once the belt strips, there's nothing to do but replace it, and they strip fairly easily. I replaced mine in that car several times. V-Belts are much better!

Gearbelts are normally used where timing is required to be kept, as in engine timing. V-belts can not keep timing, as they tend to slip and are used only where timing is not required.

For timing, you either use a gearbelt/timing belt/sychronous belt or chain. Chains tend to stretch and wear more, whereas the gear/timing/synchronous belts will only stretch a very small amount.

If your gearbelt strips, it's most likely undersized, or there are other problems in the system such as improper wrap or tensioning.
