Hot off the presses..........

PHOENIX - A Denny's restaurant at 51st Avenue and Indian School Road in Phoenix will likely be closed for some time, due to a fire in the kitchen Monday, according to fire officials.

"There were customers in, when we got on the scene," said Fire Captain Dorian Jackson. "They were evacuating them at the time we were pulling up."

Jackson says nobody was hurt in the fire, and that the restaurant has a lot of fire and water damage.

Was in the west valley last night, went by the Dennys still standing. No visible damage from the exterior.

Just got word from a neighbor that Richardson's was on fire today around 3pm haven't found any info online yet.

Scott was right when he said it's a fire pit...

Found this..

More than 70 firefighters battled flames, smoke and 115-degree heat more than one hour after they went defensive on Friday afternoon's three-alarm fire at Richardson's Cuisine of New Mexico.

The popular restaurant — a central Phoenix staple known to draw politicians, athletes and high-profile businesspeople — was immediately declared a total loss after crews were called to save neighboring businesses in the strip mall near 16th Street and Bethany Home Road.

Phoenix Fire received the call around 2 p.m. By the time firefighters arrived, within five minutes, flames were already shooting through the building's roof, said Phoenix fire spokesman Capt. Dorian Jackson.

“It was really fast-moving,” Jackson said. “It was already venting through (the roof) when we got here.”

Richardson's employees said contractors were working to repair an air-conditioning unit on the roof of the 21-year-old restaurant around 1:30 p.m. when they first smelled smoke inside the building.

Richardson Browne, the restaurant's owner, said roofing crews were at the restaurant earlier in the week to reroof the building with a foam material. Browne suspected the foam material somehow contributed to the fire.

The other businesses threatened by fire and smoke damage included Luci's Healthy Marketplace, a new health foods store; a garage holding classic or antique cars, and a vacant storefront. “It's a shame for Luci's,” said Richardson, who also owns Dick's Hideway restaurant in the same plaza.

“They just opened and now they're going to have to make it up,” he said.

Jordy Kessler, a host at Richardson's, said employees first noticed the fire toward the end of the lunch rush.

“They were on the roof, they removed a panel, and all this smoke started billowing out,” Kessler said.

Firefighters reported no one was immediately injured.

“Nobody was hurt except for our business,” said Kessler, 69. “That's what's hurting. But we'll be back.”
