How long are these pumps supposed to last?

Mine is shot after 3 months and 3 roofs.I tok the old shurflo out of the toolbox and wired it up and runs like a champ. The next big pump I get might have to be a shurflo.

Did I get a bad pump? The thing is in the garage ever night no weather always rinsed what'a going on?

I have beat the hell out of mine for the last year, and i rinse it everytime and she runs like a champ? I had good luck with the sure-flo's as well..

I've been through 2 sureflows in 3 months. the place where I get mine told me they started outsourcing the parts from china and they are using a different seal in them. He actually re-built the last one that went bad after 2 months for free. He said I'm not the only one complaining about this problem. I NORMALY get at least 7-8 months out of them. My ball valves have been crapping out on me recently too. Same deal. China...

Russ how is that big boy of delavans working out for you the motor looked good alot stronger than the smaller ones.

Shhhhhhhh....anciant Chinese secreat.....;)

Mine got hot on me and quit working for awhile after 1 roof

Bob said it has a lot to do with tip size.
If your pump is cycling on and off while you're spraying you will kill it quick.

So the next question is what size tips will kill it? I use 200' 0f 1/2" poly and 0040 and 2530 with no problems so far. The pump runs constant when the gun is open.

I bought the tips with it.Ihave been around alot of pumps but this thing went out instantly it was pumping and then nothing.
Mine did that also but was acompanied by a cloud of smoke! It was pulling more amps than I was set up for. Needless to say it was fried beyond recognition...:(

When I have a piece of equipment go out on me that quickly, I take the thing back! That's rediculous for something to quit that fast.

JC, what about your battery and wiring?
Big battery and fat wires with solid connections make a difference.
Or it could be a dud.

The Delevans seem to be pretty good for the most part but there is the occasional dud. I had one that I did one roof with and it wouldn't turn over the next time. Love gas had killed the brush springs.

I have had the replacement for well over a year- still kicking.
I keep waiting for it to die so I can hook up the Fatboy.

It's all wired with the same size wire it came with a 12 gauge wire I think. It has a very short run maybe 2 feet to the battery which is a deep cycle only used for this pump.I have the 20 amp fuse inline ,everything as it should be.

I think the brushes are stuck.I'm going to open it up and give it some electrical cleaner and see what happens.

I don't do enough roofs to keep buying delevans at this rate.

Delevan makes a good pump, but I have had a few go out after about 25 roofs. However, I had 2 Flojets that havent had 1 issue. 1 even fell off my tailgate and broke out the fan on the back, and it still pumps like a champ.

The fatboy runs great, however, it does have the relay switch that I couldnt get to quit frying on me. Then we realized that it was only frying when we had the ball valve half open. You have to open the ball valve or gun all the way and close it completely or it will crap out within seconds. That sucks because I like to only open it a little to get edges and corners.

But we've done about 70,000sqft of roof since we figured it out without any issues at all. Im probably going to order a couple more to have on hand just in case though.
