Define "PART TIMER"

Someone that cannot fully support him, or herself on their own business. For instance, John Tornabene is not a part timer, even though it is a side job, because he can support himself on his pressure washing business. Others are part timers, because they are more dependent on their wifes income to support their family, then they are their own. It seems a little harsh to put it that way, but, if your business is being subsidized by your wife, it is a hobby.

Seriously though its a strange term, part time in the labor world is equal to as much as or less than 32 hours per week.

I wonder if some look at people that cant wash year around like Beth, Fenner or anyone up North for that matter as part timers?

This IS my income, this business supports my whole family, wife, 3 dogs, 4 kids, employees, their families ect. I have nothing to fall back on, no trust funds, no riches, yet I dont work a full time job in my oponion, some weeks we work 2 days some weeks, we work 7 days but hardly do I ever put in 40 hours a week, I guess I had better shape up and go full time! LOL

I never said anything about number of hours. ;) my wife has not worked outside the home for 20 years. Good thing, too. I dont know how she would get all her things done if she had to get a paycheck, too. She also has a marketing degree and organizational skills that are beyond belief. I wonder how she gets it all done, and i am pretty good myself.

Slacker!!!

Part time gig is what I have. I work my regular job 2 on and 2 off. I started washing on my days off, it's that simple. Of course this is only from April-Nov weather permitting.

My wife is a educators assistant in our local high school so she don't earn enough for me to quit my day job and rely on hers lol.

Does this qualify as part time?

Thats a good question Russ. My Partner on my other job who retired at 41 from there was already generating a couple of million in sales for years since he owns this company which has a store and a huge masonry end which he also owns the excavators,Bobcats etc. and has for years 30+ employees. www.jjspools.com

He hasn't done any physical work in probably at least 15 yrs. Today he's 44.

Some other people I know have multiple businesses that also include Powerwashing. Does that make them a part time Powerwasher??

Seasonal businesses here in NY have many companies that gross in the millions per year. My cousins Landscaping business in the Hampton's Pristine Landscaping he's always done well and he used to go to Florida for a couple of months in the winter when his business pretty much was shut. Today he cant do that because he is married and has 2 young girls. Hes just about 40.

I think people in this industry get crossed on the partimer label. Just because they have other jobs or other companies or they don't do any of the labor they get branded as partimers. When was the last time Ron M. Powerwasher..lol and he does damn good. Probably makes millions between the times he picks up a wand:yes4:

Basically my answer would be similar to Scott Stones. If they can support themselves on there PW money I would say that puts them in the fulltime category.

Here's one for ya. Once at a Convention I said to this guy "Damn you do well for a Powerwasher" and he said "John I'm not a powerwasher" so I said really, so what r u then...He said "An Entrepreneur". That guy was Doc Riesman.

Here is a part timer

That is kind of like saying almost everyone in the the US works part time, because most families can not be supported on one income. It takes two incomes for most families to survive.

I am a full timer and my wife and I do pretty well but in order to maintain the lifestyle that we choose it takes my wife's income as well.

I guess I need to get a better paying hobby

Life style choices are different. I really believe that entirely too many people are dependent on the two income model.

For instance, in the early 90's my wife and I ran the numbers. Keep in mind she has a professional degree and has managed $70+ million dollar budgets. After we ran all the numbers of her costs to be employed, we ended up with a net gain of about 15% of her gross salary. It was not worth it to us, and I believe that it shows on what our kids are like. Let alone our family life with my schizophrenic schedule.
