Color Boards

It's hard to tell in the pic, but they do look different! So their samples are off?

You need to keep in mind that sample boards are still not going to be a true representation of what someone's deck will look like.

Age of wood
Species of wood
Method of prep

All will have a unique way of changing the final result.

As for the little samples that come from stain companies - there's a high likelihood that those pieces of wood were straight from a yard, not cleaned like we do it, probably not a common decking material, probably have not seen a lick of sunshine or rain. It's always best to make your own sample boards that fit the wood that you run into most often.

I always appreciate what you have to add Celeste. Personally, I have made some real nice display boards to find they hard resemble what we work with in the field. The best boards IMO are the ones I pull from the barn that have been weather exposed. I take through a cleaning and put my samples together.

Unfortunately I left against the back of my trailer and ran over it. :speechless: I was just glad the customer had picked it out and went inside already!

If someone is building a new deck raid the dumpster for old wood . Cleaner up and use as samples. Raid the dumpster for new wood as well. I can build a ipe deck with the samples I've harvested .
