Chinees anyone!

Ok, I'm going to do my first chinees restaurant. Here is a picture of some of the worst buildup in the system.

Question: Anyone ever use a Wadu or soda blaster directly on the grease buildup? I do have lot of carbon buildup in different places on the system which it should work out well. But I just got the Wadu about 3 weeks ago and haven't tried it on grease yet, works great on paint, asphalt, brick, etc..

Using soda to clean grease will be a total waist of time. I owned a dry system driven by a 130 cfm compressor. Two basic issues, 1. It moves the grease and does not release bond to metal . 2. It is a point of sight with limited cleaning surface. Your effective cleaning surface is the size of a quarter. You can't clean vertical or laterals

The system works great on removing hard surfaces like paint and carbon. It doesn't work on grease of ANY type.

That place has a strong fan (or you posted the picture upside down) Dont you just love the stalagtites or is it stalagmites on the link bracket?

Dave,

OK I won't use the soda blaster for the grease just the hard carbon buildup.

Thanks

Grant,

Yes there is a strong fan at this particular hood, in fact this fan has 4 hoods tied in to it via a 30' lateral duct.

I know this job is probally a nightmare but we priced it like we didn't want it, but would be happy to do it for the price quoted.

OH! $hit they paid us on the spot before we started any work.

"spelunking" ??

Spelunking, Cave exploration, or in this case grease duct exploration.

Chinese with 30 foot lateral's! Man I hope you got paid well. You didn't have any pictures of the laterals. Does it have access? Did you look into it before you bid?

I don't mean to scare you but if I bid a Chinese job so I didn't get it and not only got it but got paid up front I think I would run screaming like my hair was on fire.

Well let me say this about the pay "We are eager to do it" ya know what I mean. $$$$$.$$

I understand all of that.
Do they have a health/insurance/fire inspecter on there back or something? What happens if one of them get's involved and insists the laterals are 100% clean before they are satisfied. Larterals that I feel comfortable saying have never been cleaned.

Maybe I'm to jaded and should just let you run your business, but something about this just doesn't sit well with me.
Then again maybe this guy is just a easy going cooperative guy. See I'm so jaded I can't read that last line with out laughing.

No you are "right on" lateral ducts are Phase III of this project.

Phase II is getting the fan curb built to compliance.

Lot of work here please waitr for the photos. Few days! Promise!

Ok the details are little shady so here are few more details.

This is what I know about the restaurant:

Established in 1970, so its atleast 33+ years old

4 Hoods tied into a 30' carbon steel duct 20"x16" 6'- 8' radius ducts that ties hoods to 30' lateral.

Have not seen the inside of the lateral ducts. Absolutely not one single access panel. Oh! Boy!

Large up-blast fan on flat roof with 8" curb. Fan has been mopped in with asphalt and can not be tipped. "Owner has agreed to hire roofer to bring this exhaust fan curb to code."

When we were estimating the job there was evidence of other Exhaust Cleaners. Scrape marks in the plenum and the grease laden rubber surgical gloves on the roof in front of the fan that has the problem I mentioned above. I guess they heard those three little words better than I could.

I bet the restaurant owners does have someone on their back to get it fixed and cleaned up. No matter which Fire Marshal/Health Insp./ Insurance this restaurants problems are hard to miss.

Before I wrote up the proposal I told them it's going to be expensive and if they are not going to let me make a profit I would not be interested at all and the proposal is NON-Negotiable.

We have our work cut out for us on this one. If you don't here from us for a while send out a search party.

Best advice I've heard all week "Run Forrest, Run!" thanks Matt!

Matt aren't you supposed to be in Florida visiting your Mother today?

Matt,

We worked three nights in a row scraping and scraping, I never knew I could hurt like this. Thank god there is motrin. Remember that this part of the project is from the plenum down. We have not touched the horizontal duct ...yet. I need to lay up for a few more days .... LOL.

The owner said we did a beautiful job :)

Tried to post some photos but the board is acting up and I keep getting a fatal error. I'll Try again later.

here's a photo of that job.
