Chemical pvc wands and fittings for them

I want to change the barbs with quick connectors for better functionality. What kind of fittings do you guys use to switch different lengths of PVC wands for your Fatboy pumps? I don’t find any supplier to sell 1/2" stainless quick connectors. Would 3/8" fittings be fine or it will restrict the flow and shorten the pumps life (along with 300' hose)? I also want to be able to switch the inlet line of the pump between two tanks which supply from the bottom (not top of the tank), so I will need some sort of quick connectors there as well.

Thank You!

I think PVC should be NPT threads and you can use normal quick connects. Parker sells 1/2 but unsure about stainless.

As for the tanks you will need to get a 3 way ball valve and from there just run a supply hose from each tank to the ball valve. This will give you the option of changing between tanks and the ability to keep liabilities at a minimum when employees are using this piece of equipment

Since the tanks feed from the bottom, what filter would you suggest? I didn't find any hose line filter for chemicals.

depends upon the size of the fitting at the bottom. Personally I don't pull from the bottom of my chemical tanks only throught the top portion and cap off the bulkhead on the bottom or order tanks without the bulkhead on the bottom.

Home depot sells a inline bowl style filter now and are near the irrigation isle.

Most of the Vendors can get the 1/2" couplers/plugs, they are not on the websites or in the stores as they are not sold often but you can call the supplier and have them order them. If you don't find a vendor that can get them for you, I can recommend someone that can.

I do not pull from the bottom of tanks, I do not use bulkhead fittings on the roof cleaning tanks after trying 3 different manufacturers of Viton gaskets and they would only last about 1.5 months each.

Why take a chance? Most tank places sell them as PCO tanks and if they are out they can order them.

One of the tanks is already drilled. Capping it off is an easy fix. The rest of my thoughts are still questionable :).. How have you guys set up your low pumps along with different lengths of wands?

Just to make sure that we are on the same page, are you building a roof cleaning rig?

If this is for a roof cleaning wand, here you go, it is all explained many, many, many, many times in the older posts in the roof cleaning section but here you go:

As for the pvc wands, go to Home Depot or Lowes and get some 1/2" pvc pipe, a 1/2" pvc ball valve (white with red handle), a 90 degree elbow or 45 degree elbow and threaded fittings for each end. Glue them together and put a hose barb on the inlet and coupler on the outlet.

I should have added, some guys just use the ball valve with a coupler on the outlet for different nozzles, check the older posts for many pictures.

Chris,

I want to use the pump not only for roofs but for any kind of chemical spraying and treatment. Therefore I want to be able to switch different wands quickly without wasting time to unhook the barb (almost impossible with braided hose). Here the question about the size of the quick connectors came. I just wanna make sure the pump does not get restricted and burned.

OK, now we are on the same page.

Instead of using 1/2" couplers/plugs (they all will rust when using roof cleaning mixes) just use the banjo camlock fittings, a lot cheaper, nothing to rust out and you can replace the inner gaskets when needed.

That is what I had on my roof cleaning wand until the camlock kept on getting snagged on the roof edge and on things in the trailer so I took it off. I wanted to be able to add more hose when needed.

What I did is used a brass hose barb (plastic, nylon, pvc, and poly will crack over time, I had it done) and thread it into the end of the wand/gun with teflon tape. When you need to take it off, just unthread the hose barb out, clean the threads off, put new tape on and thread the hose barb into whatever you need like another section of hose that has a female pipe thread connector.

As for the Banjo camlock fittings, They sell them everywhere, I do not have a picture of them or a link but they are easy to find, tractor supply, grainger, etc....sell them. Do a quick search on google and you will see what I am talking about.

I'll check for Banjo camlock fittings with my local plumbing supplier.
Thanks! :)
