Celebrity crushes

Tony Shelton

BS Detector, Esquire
This summer we have watched a lot of old movies with Fayth. Old cities like San Fran and New York haven't changed that much. She is amazed to see places in black and white that look the same today.

We have watched almost all the Hitchcock movies and just finished most of the Cary Grant ones.

This weekend we started my one and only celebrity crush... Audrey Hepburn.

Of course they are all Hollywood fakery. But we are using them to teach Fayth about sophistication and how to express herself in an educated manner rather than the junk Hollywood puts out today.

We will probably be up late watching Audrey.

Any other suggestions?

yea your right, My kids are 26 24 22. I did the best i could. i have one daughter that wants to be a rap star aand another that is well on her way to a sucseful career. we can only do what we can do. but thank god all of mine are respectful, kind and just good people.

Just keep trying to do the right thing i guess.

Should I ask how she feels about law enforcement? What have you taught her about the police, the government at large and societal norms?

Michael, I'd say that's none of your damn business.

Neither is

"where are you coming from",

"where are you going",

"what is your business here" or

"could I see some ID please".

Clean up your own world before you start worrying about what I do in mine.

But, for the record, I didn't have to teach her much. Her experience with the police consists of one very good friend and neighbor, a sixteen year veteran of the force, who's campaign we have worked on for Sheriff. Three other instances:

1) Hearing an anus yelling at me to "get back in the f###ing car! With a taser pointed at me for daring to bring my license and registration back to his car
2) Listening to her mom being called names for not pulling over fast enough.
3) Last week when let the cops in my house to view our security tapes to get a timeline on a robbery and assault. All Fayth wanted to know was why was the guy looking all around our house and not the screen. Do you know why Michael?

Clean up your house.

Tony,

It is people like you who breed hatred and develop deliusion people......I am sure that a young kid understands taking "reforming criminals and addicts" off the street and helping them in your own home is a bubble off level.

My house is just fine, thanks.

I didn't call them. You won't find any inconsistencies in my statements vs my actions. I invited them in my home when they asked to view the tapes because a neighbor called on a van parked across the street that had been stolen.

Shelly told me to tell them to screw off

I probably should have.

I can go inti more detail if you like but they came into to house with the intention of verifying their theory that the owner of the van allowed himself to be beaten up and be put in the hospital to pay off a drug debt. He said it happened at 930 am the previous day. The cop was certain the guy was lying an just about peed himself with glee when the neighbor and I told him we thought the van had been here for two full days.

When my video showed the van arrived at 945 am they were pissed and didn't even want the tape after that. I guess because it goes against their theory and exonerates the victim. I will follow the case and give the tape to his lawyer if they try anything slick with this poor guy. I met his dad and brother. They run a small facilities services company and look straight as an arrow. The victim works 16 hrs a day cleaning carpet for them. But they are hispanic and automatically guilty I guess

No, there is no circumstance I can think of where I would want or need to call the police.

And Michael, you and John should have been partners. I must have struck close to home. That's good. That would mean you still have a conscience and there is still hope.

And I ask for advice on these boards because once you wade through the few few sociopaths there are some fine men and women on here with great advice.

You don't need any advice, Michael because you already know everything.

I didnt see anything in what Tony asked at the start of this thread as asking for parenting advice. I also can't remember any time he was inconsistent in his statements or beliefs. I may not agree in some of his conclusions that we are becoming a police state and all our rights are threatened, but he makes a very compelling case when he brings up story after story of police abuses. I have seen a few personally, and my wife who worked for a police department has described many more to me. If the voters don't say anything about it, the leaders won't either and it will get worse.

But to get back on track with the main point, kids do make their own decisions of whose values to follow. Those decisions come from watching popular culture, listening to parents, teachers and other authority figures (like cops) and the only thing a parent can do is point out the good ones and bad ones as they see it and use those as examples. The kid then makes his own choice. Hopefully they make the right ones.
I believe the biblical teaching of "train up a child in the way they should go" is about just that!
Tony, Kudos for a good teaching moment.
