CCTV - video surveillance

Ok so I am looking into getting a system. I have zero idea on what to get. I would like input from you guys that may have them or in a previous job sold them. I am looking at 6 to 8 cameras. Has anybody installed a system them bought over the net? If so how did it go. I see systems on amazon for $400 but a local guy wanted 1000 to 1500 for his "upgraded system".

I've done some research on the subject, but haven't committed yet. Depending on what you want to surveil, consider getting a minimum of 700 TVL (resolution) anything lower will provide just enough information to know someone is (or was) there, but good luck identifying them. The higher the TVL the better the picture for the details.

Night vision (depending on the area being surveiled) should be no less than 70-80 ft in pitch black darkness. Again, this is to obtain useable details. Otherwise all you will see is a figure moving around.

Here's a nice Swann system at a great price on sale at Costco.

The platform is very flexible and user friendly. Web based, accessible by smart phones. You can also add cameras easily.

Bryan, I would like some pricing....

Doug if you have a Fry's in Houston they will match internet pricing. When I got mine it was $650 everywhere but I found it online for $450. Fry's matched the price so I bought one for us and one for Chris too.

I couldn't eat that month because I am so broke lol. That is why I am so skinny. :)
