CAT Pump Rebuild....Is it worth it??

I had a CAT pump break on me. One of the connecting rods broke into 4 pieces. The model #5DX40G1, direct drive pump, 4gpm @3000psi, powered by an 11hp Honda. It does not appear that the connecting rods are bolted to the crankshaft, looks like they are pressed on. Is it worth trying to rebuild this pump or should I throw it in the garbage.
Anyone with experience in the pump building arena, please chime in.
Thanks in advance, Mike.

cat are worth it.......AR generals are not. Its my opionion....

You need to get it the rest of the way apart and see if there's any damage on the other rods and the crankshaft. With all the shrapnel flying around in there, it could have scarred up the others. It's best, too, to replace the bearings. I can get pricing for the parts Monday and let you know.

Michael, if you replace the rods, crank, bearings, and seals, you're in well over $400.00 to fix the back end. A new 66DX (upgraded model from 5DX) is nearly $750.00. I have an AR RKV4G37 complete with unloader and injector for $395.00. List price on the pump alone is $800.00 not including the unl / inj. My normal sale price for the pump alone is $450.00.

Wow no brainer

A friend has a general 3040 on the shelf thats gonna need a rebuild soon so thats what i put it back together with and I got the rebuild kit with it. I guess I own a new boat anchor except that I have another machine with the same pump so I guess that if that one blows up I maybe can piece one back together...
